Reflecting on six months as a vegan right before the Fourth of July.

Ahh the many cookouts of my childhood and adulthood. If there was one thing I could count on in our family is that if there was a holiday there would be barbecue out the wazoo-hot dogs, hamburgers, kielbasa, ribs-it was a bonanza of food and I along with the rest of my family looked forward to the holidays for not only the family time but the smorgasbord that would inevitably grace our plates and bellies. Now however...
I am now proudly vegan. I've been so for six months and am very happy with the choices I am making and how they have helped my health and even beliefs as to meat being consumed. Where I once looked forward to throwing a steak on the grill I now geek out at going to farmer's markets to buy the largest beets and freshest kale possible. I am planning to make a lentil loaf for the very first time (I am eating them willingly!)and I am very excited about the new food. And where I used to down what seemed like gallons of whey protein has turned into a love affair with almond milk and morning smoothies filled with spinach, beet, celery, apples and strawberries--I 'don' t got cow's milk anymore!
Bringing it on down to Veganville--Happy Independence Day from being a carnivore(for me)!
Thanks for your response on my spark page...I really appreciate it! You look fabulous...you have unveiled the you that was always there hiding in another body. You are truly an inspiration and I'm so glad that you chose the vegan lifestyle!
I recently started using almond milk. I really like it on my cereal or in my coffee. It has less calories than skim milk and more calcium. I am trying to eat more vegan, but not all the time yet. It does make me feel good. I could give up meat, I think, but cheese and eggs would be sorely missed. I like fish, too. Well, one step at a time. 1394 days ago
Congratulations on your success. Change is not always easy but you managed to make a lasting change and inspire others along the way. Enjoy your Vegan 4th. think of it as your independence from meat.
That is wonderful! I am so proud of you! I am a newbie Vegan and I love it! It's not near as hard as I thought it would be. May I ask, how much weight have you lost in just your 6 months as a Vegan?
