H20 got me in trouble again!!!!

Saturday, June 29, 2013

This is the last week of the 5% challenge. Man, is it ever a good one! The mini-challenges each week have really caused me to grow in my spiritual journey!!! I have actually gone down almost 3 pounds this time-more than any other challenge. I am so thankful!!!! I know the leaders have really worked hard to give us challenges that don't just bend us, they actually stretch us!! I thank them all for their hard work. Another thing that may contribute to my downward bend in the scale is something I never expected. About halfway through the challenge my doctor informed me my sodium was too low, and her recommendation was that I drink no more than 6 glasses of water/day and check back. When I did my sodium was up, but I am still drinking 48 ozs. for the next couple of weeks. I couldn't figure out what the correlation was, but she explained it has something to do with my level of electrolytes. Evidently a person can drink too much water!!! I plan to take part in the next challenge coming up next weekend, but I can't guarantee I will get my 8 in when I should. Nevertheless, fellow sparkers, the journey continues. May yours be a positive one!!!

That is so interesting that your Doctor belives all your water consumption is leading to dilutional hyponatremia. Glad she caught that for you!!

It has been frustrating for me because, though I always drink over 8 glasses of liquid daily, that is an arbitrary number and isn't for everyone, though it is preached like the holy gospel! So glad that you are listening to your doctor.

Congrats on the weight loss! Great job!

    3 lbs, woo hoo!
Interesting how too much water can mess up salt in the body.
Every 'body' is different, and learning what makes us tick seems
    to be half the battle.

I have the same problem with water; my blood pressure is naturally very low and when I drink a lot of water it leaches salt out of my system and I feel really unwell. So I'm very careful about it, especially when the weather is hot and I lose salt through sweating. In the challenge I just put how much I felt comfortable drinking. Herb teas don't seem to be so bad as plain water. emoticon

Recent research has shown that drinking 8 glasses of water a day isn't necessary or desirable. Mayo Clinic says the 8 cups of "water" includes other drinks and also should factor in what we eat, as many foods and fruit contain water.
I wish people were more aware of this! I wasn't until someone else blogged about it a while back.
