So yesterday I did some underglazing, and today I did more, and as I write, the first load is in the kiln. And I also was able to get on the bike for a half hour.
And the evening is early. I was going to take Glitterfairy77 to church tonight but the male parent isn't going to be home in time, so I will probably do some MORE underglazing, keeping the process going. MAKING the animals is fun. Painting them is more nerve-wracking - more detail, non-solid colors that have to be figured out. For instance, the "Stinkpot" turtle took 2 coats of medium green, and a speckling wash of a mix I made called medium brown - using walnut brown and burnt orange, possibly a bit of harvest gold...Commercial underglazes. After these pieces are fired to cone 04, I will use a gloss glaze and fire them again to cone 06. Except the peacocks. I use acrylic paints and stains for them. Ugh. I hate painting peacocks.
