Race Report

Saturday, June 29, 2013

Well it rained pretty much all night, but it cleared up in time for the race. The temperature was fine at the start, but then the sun came out and things got muggy. I would have preferred the rain! Doglady13 and I set a pretty good pace for the first mile... under 10 minutes. So we slowed it down for mile 2 (which was when the temps rose and the sun came out). We did take a couple short walking breaks, but we ran the last .75 mile stretch to the finish line. She ended up finishing one second before me, so she was #100 and I was #101. That was out of over 160 runners and walkers, so we weren't anywhere near first, but we weren't the last of the runners either. I wanted to finish in under 35 minutes, and my time was listed as 33:13. The clock actually read 33:08 when I passed it, so I am a little put out to lose those seconds, but I still did better than I expected. Yay! I am going to keep training to get faster and be able to run the entire blasted thing at my next 5k. My next one that I have signed up for isn't until August, but I might find one before then. My goal for the 5k in August is just to do better than I did this time.

It was great finally meeting Doglady13. Thank you so much for driving all that way to run with me. I appreciate it so much! I probably wouldn't have tried so hard without the company.
