Weird, emotional day (TMI alert)

Friday, June 28, 2013

Today was month-end in my office. I figured I was in pretty good shape because I had almost everything we received posted already. Then my boss called me into her office. She said there have been complaints that I have an odor problem, and there have been complaints before. She told me to go home and take it as PTO. She also gave me the business card for HR and told me to call them. Apparently there's a wide array of employee services that might help. The card says they close at five California time. I called a few minutes after four, and they were already closed! So I have to try again on Monday.

But as we talked, she told me she's worried sick about me. She said watching me cross the parking lot is painful, and she's afraid I'll have a sudden heart attack or stroke, or at least end up in a wheelchair or using the walker full-time. I had no idea she thought anything like that. She ORDERED me to take it very easy this weekend due to the heat (expected to be 100+) and stay hydrated.

I know part of the odor issue is not being able to get the laundry done. I've taken to hand-washing a few things each day, but apparently it doesn't work well enough. I contacted a housekeeping service for a quote but that was over a week ago and they never got back to me. Guess they don't want my business. I'll keep looking. I'm also asking people I know if anybody knows a teenager looking to pick up some pocket money. Goodness knows, I cleaned my share of houses as a teenager!

Then I got home and decided to cheer myself up by watching some of the wonderful Clancy Brothers and Tommy Makem Youtube videos I bookmarked. A whole bunch of my favorites are gone. Seems the account of the person who posted them has been cancelled due to copyright violations. Phooey. Well, Youtube is a huge site. I've got to look and see if anybody else posted the same clips.

My helpful neighbor is coming a little later to haul out my trash and change the battery in my "chirping" smoke detector. I just feel totally wrung out right now.

Contact anyone in your building who might hire a babysitter.... teenager wanting more money. Call the local high school, talk to the counselor and explain your situation.
Stay cool, relaxed, drink lots of water and take care.

I would be very careful about using Craig's List for a service like that. You never know what kind of person would answer your ad.

Is there what used to be called a "sheltered workshop" in your area? Here they call it "Opportunities" and they have a laundry service, cleaning service, recycling center, etc. Their rates are usually very reasonable.

Good luck.

It's good your boss is concerned about you. I'm sure the conversation wasn't easy for her, either.

I am glad to hear that your boss is showing concern about you. Do take it easy this weekend, and stay hydrated, per her instructions. I hope you can find someone who can help you with the laundry or do it all for you. I am keeping you in my thoughts and prayers.

Do you have a local laundry-mat in your area? The one in my area ill pick up your clothes and wash it in their washer and dryer for you. They will fold it and even lite iron wrinkled clothes for no extra charge. They then will drop it off to you and all you have to do is put it in your drawers. I used them one time when I had the flu and it was a great service and really reasonable priced. I bet it would cost you about the same if you had to hire someone to come to your house and do the same.

It sounds like your boss really cares about you as a person. A lot of people would like to have a concerned boss.

I'm glad to hear that your boss is concerned about your well-being. Take her advice, and please do take it easy. Have you tried calling other cleaning services? Or perhaps putting out an ad on Cragislist, to find folks who are looking for some extra money. I have to believe that there are at least a few looking to make some extra money by doing some cleaning. I hope you are able to find someone to help-I know it will make such a huge difference in your life.
