Whew - two weeks out of the country...it was a fantastic trip
but I'm SO glad to be back home.
I now know why the toilet is also called the "porcelain throne!" China is an amazing place, but I won't miss the squatty potties - good thing my quads were in good condition
No workouts for two weeks and I felt it when I got back on the
at home. But I was happy to be in decent condition when we tackled the Great Wall. Our guide took us to a steeper part of the wall that is much less crowded, it was magical. There were several spots where so steep I climbed down using my hands. Worked up a great sweat climbing up and down and felt like it was a real workout.
And then there was the food...
When it looks like this I'm at a loss to know how to even start tracking this! And of course all the meals were served family style and gosh darn, I went and left my measuring cups at home
. About all I can say is yum, yum, yum. Did avoid the chocolate if only because it's pretty hard to come by over there. My guilty admission, however, is that I bought (and thoroughly enjoyed eating) a giant
when we were delayed four hours in San Francisco on the way home.
Some of the highlights...
Tiananmen Square (was chilling to see the site of that infamous television image - which actually was about two blocks off the square itself, but not as photogenic).
Exploring the Forbidden City
Feeling the magic at the Summer Palace
Awed by the Terra Cotta Warriors outside Xian
Enjoying the city view from 100 stories up in the Shanghai World Trade Center
And getting another view of the Shanghai skyline from a river boat at twilight
Finally, I just want to say thanks to SP - while I'm still 6-8 pounds from my goal weight it was great to be down 15 pounds from last year. I know for sure that 15+ hour flight to China was so much more comfortable this year than it would have been last year. Can't wait to post photos when I'm at my final goal!
