New Choices

Friday, June 28, 2013

Yesterday for dinner I ate 3 bowls of fake Captain Crunch. Yeah that is not good food. I had a headache. I wanted to get rid of it. So I ate the sugar cereal. Then my stomach did not feel good. Duh. . . I know that is not good for me.

I am setting up my environment to help me make better choices. I need to stop restarting and just keep going. Keep on keeping on. I want this to get easier. But, somehow I am clinging to old habits.

Time to allow myself to get away from them...

It's constantly about choice, I'm afraid to say.

Dr Phil says: When you choose the behavior,
    you choose the consequences.

I like that I started reading labels and appreciating that if it does not have fiber or protein it is probably not that good for me. I have my "go to" cereals now based on that. I decided that I'm worth going to the health food store to get "little big bread" that is low in calories but high in fiber. I like to that I spent a while on a food adventure trying to find foods or combinations of foods that were not only good for me but that I delight in eating. Oatmeal with a compote of stewed rhubarb and strawberries.... a poached egg on my little big bread. Almond butter on little big bread with a cup of coffee. I could be Julie Andrews singing "these are a few of my favourite things" lol. Fill your "environment" with things you love to eat that love you back. It is a great plan. When it is "for the kids" that is not a good reason. They will learn to find foods amongst the things you give them too. My sponsor in overeater's anonymous used to say "F... the kids" whenever I said for the kids. It was just an excuse to bring unhealthy foods into the house. If I really love them I will feed their bodies, not their emotions. It has taken a long time. Today I said no to going out for fast food with DD and insead we went to a salad bar in the grocery store. Today she also told me she did situps on her own, spontaneously. She chose greens and boiled eggs and shrimp which I would not have guessed would be her choices. You can do it! Do it for the kids!

At least you know how that impacts you... will you ever allow that in your home again. For some reason I think not. We have all done things that we should not have, the key is to learn from it. I still have issues with throwing away food. The good news is you are on a path to fill you home only with food stuffs that will nourish you.

For me I have found the following to hold true.
"People have a hard time letting go of their suffering. Out of a fear of the unknown, they prefer suffering that is familiar."- Thich Nhat Hanh

The new is both scary and exciting. You are bravely moving forward.

I had to chuckle when I read your blog! emoticon I could sooooo relate! Thankfully I have now emptied my house of junk foods & have mastered the art of not bringing it home again from the grocery store!

It's amazing - when you eat the quality & quantity of foods your body requires, your cravings decrease dramatically! You can do it! emoticon

Definitely you are on the right track and mindset. Capt Crunch cereal is just a big gob of sugar. Find some healthy cereal choices that taste good to have. I personally love the maple frosted mini wheats oh the blueberry ones are good too. Whole grains and good for you and not a big sugar rush! You can do this!
