wrist pain

Friday, June 28, 2013

I've been waking with wrist pain and swollen fingers to some degree for a month or so. I didn't think much of it as my feet hurt every morning and have for years. Then yesterday the wrist pain was bad and you could see how swollen it is. Looks like a cotton ball is stuffed under the skin on the left side of my left hand. I'm in such a crafting mode this summer it was impossible to sit and do nothing! So I limited movements and didn't pick up anything heavy or breakable. By 8:30pm I couldn't stand it and we went to the store for a brace. $22 each! Yikes, finally found a store brand for half. I guess it works OK, but I have small hands compared to the rest of me:-) so it's a bit loose on the thumb. I slept with it on and it didn't hurt as much this morning. This comes just 5 days before some old friends of my hubbys are coming to visit. They only let us know this week. He swore he'd help get the two junk rooms ready for guests. Plus we already had one day next week set aside to rent a uhaul and pick up some furniture from mom as she's moving and is giving us stuff. Now he's booked work today,Saturday and Sunday! Leaving not one day to work at home before four people show up on Tuesday. But he tells me to sit and rest he'll do everything! I guess he has special powers or something. Also where is he hiding the stuff we're getting from Mom? I told him he better tell them to get a hotel, it's not happening here! I'm not looking forward to the next week at all!

Hope your wrist heals soon! Don't you love it when friends and family let you know they plan to visit just before they arrive? I had a brother from Idaho that once called AFTER he was already in San Antonio! I guess some people think think you should always keep your house clean - unfortunately, that's not happening too often here!

Oh I have been there! My problem is with my left thumb, though, and it is arthritis. Those wrist braces help but they take forever to dry. My basement over the years has been full of my MIL's stuff (twice, once when she sold her house and moved to the assisted living, once when she died), my Aunt May's furniture, and my mother's stuff (twice again, once when she sold her house, and once when she sold her retirement condo to move to a Continuing Care). Each time I'd stare at it for awhile, then keep the one piece I wanted and give the rest away. I no longer have "junk rooms". I cleared everything out, sold it or gave it away. A woman down the street has her house so stuffed with her mother's stuff that her kids think she is a hoarder and hate the crowding. She say she just can't throw it out, it would be rude to her dead mother, so she lives like a hoarder. I can't live like that anymore. I am ruthless about getting rid of stuff. As it goes out of the house, it feels almost as good as losing weight. Which is what it really is.
