Mammo'd & slammo'd

Friday, June 28, 2013

I'm off this morning to get my 6 month mammogram. Yep, you heard me right -- 6 months. That's my new timeline for a bit. Every 6 months I get the left one (Thelma) done (the one that threatened to kill me). At the 12 month mark, I get the other one (Louise) done, too. emoticon

It's really not so bad. That one mammogram I had in October 2012 saved my life. If I had waited even just 3 to 6 months longer, it could have been worse. Of course I'll never know that for sure, but I'm glad I don't know for sure. emoticon

Ladies & Gents: I just want to urge you to make sure you keep your doctor's appointments for preventative health screenings. No, it's not fun. It can be a pain (very literally), but it can save your life. I was able to avoid having chemo because the breast cancer was caught so early. That's the way it should be. It's so much less hassle that way.

Promise me that you'll call TODAY if there's an appointment you've been putting off.

Fight like a girl & hit like a boy! emoticon

Blessings to you!! emoticon emoticon

Had mine done in December and had my colonoscopy done too. I have to have one every 5 years due to colon cancer runs in my family - my younger brother, aunt and great aunt all died from it. You have to take these things very seriously. Glad you caught yours early!

I too feel my mammogram in December 2012 saved my life as well. My Breast Cancer at the time it was found was only the size of grains of salt. Both my medical and radiation oncologist have said 3-6 months made a HUGE difference in my treatment. They feel if I had waited instead of a lumpectomy and radiation I would have more than likely required a mastectomy, chemo and radiation!

Next week I have follow up lab work followed up with an appt with the Medical oncologist the following week and am also meeting with the Dr that will schedule my colonoscopy. Have my first follow up mammogram at the end of August.

Great advice that needed to be shared. I - along with so many others - have been through the self-same process and like you was fortunate enough to have my problem caught early enough to avoid chemo too. These appts. are no fun at all but far, far better than the alternative. Great that you shared the experience you've had with everyone.
