I joined SparkPeople, like most people, because I have some weight to lose. I'm no longer 16 when I could eat a super sized Big Mac meal with a coke and not gain an ounce. I'm also no longer in an ulcerative colitis flare where everything but rice would literally shoot right through me (yeah, I know...GROSS). I no longer live in town where my gym is located, so waiting until 7pm to go to an hour long zumba class in town, then driving the hour home & going straight to bed is no longer an option.
After joining, I started getting emails about motivational members and how they lost more weight than I can ever imagine losing. They’re truly inspiring. Their stories of struggle. Their stories of their personal journey is truly amazing. But, to me, they were like reading a magazine. Reading about people online usually has the “results not typical” message across the bottom. In reality, that says to me, “don’t ever expect to get these results in real life”.
The amazing thing about SparkPeople is that you can “friend” these people you read about. You can read their daily struggles. You can talk to them through Spark Messages. You can interact with them on message boards. SparkPeople is all about the experience of other people. It reminds us daily that we aren’t alone in this journey (yes, you’ll hear that a lot from me). We aren’t the only ones who wake up one day, look in the mirror & say aloud, “WHO IS THAT???”.
Thank goodness! I could NEVER do this without your help. Without your encouragement. Without your challenges. Without you pushing me & simply reminding me that together, we can do it!
