So I've been dealing with some serious health issues since January 2013. Added to this, I had a rapid weight gain of almost 20 pounds in a span of only a couple of months for no apparent reason. I've seen a variety of speciality doctors that range from a cardiologist to a pulminary specialist. The lung guy diagnosed me with asthma. None of these doctors (all men) could explain the weight gain. They said it was due to my age. Thanks. On a hunch, my sister suggested I go to an allergist. Turns out I am not allergic to anything. Good to know so I stopped taking my daily dose of claritin. This doctor (a woman) listened to my concerns about the weight gain and decided to run an in-depth thyroid test on me. Went to see her today for my results. I was diagnosed with Hypothyroidism. Normal TPO (thyroid peroxidase) enzyme levels range from 0-34. Mine were at 308. My thyroid is fighting my body. I'm scheduled for a sonogram of my thyroid to see if there are any other issues. I will start on medication. I will still need to work on losing the weight, but now at least my body won't work against me.
