Do you wear makeup every day?

Thursday, June 27, 2013

When I was younger I barely wore any-
maybe a tiny bit of blush-
maybe mascara-
although I pretty much stopped that after my little sister died unexpectedly many years ago (2 of them, in fact) and I found myself weeping often and in random places when I thought of her.

I have always used moisturizer (cheap stuff) and sunscreen (although I am a lifelong sun worshiper/beach girl) and got many compliments on my nice skin (thnx, Mom!).

Not sure when make-up became more important to me.
Now I feel naked without it.
I wear it every single day-
would not leave the house without it.
I mean, it's usually what I would call minimal make-up-
takes me 5 minutes, tops,
but I use:
foundation (very lightly- mixed with moisturizer),
blush,
concealer (I'm 61 now and have a few dark spots),
eyeliner,
sometimes eye shadow (I wear glasses so it doesn't really show),
powder on top-
and now I've added an eyebrow pencil to my routine-
my sis enlightened me that a darker fuller brow is more youthful (our brows are thinning and fading away) and she was right!
I curl my eyelashes but rarely use mascara,
because the eyedrops I use daily for my glaucoma makes my eyelashes long and thick-
I have to trim them with scissors so they don't hit my glasses!
Sounds like a benefit, but, unfortunately, the drops also permanently darkened my pretty green eyes to dark brown, a forewarned side effect.

So now I even have to wear makeup to the gym!
My only hope is that nobody notices as I have always looked down on fully made-up and coiffed women at the gym.

So, how about you all?
Do you wear makeup every day?
When I am down at my second home in the Caribbean

I only wear eyeliner and blush because anything else just slides off- and I keep a compact handy whenever we go out to keep the shine down a bit.

I never wear makeup. Never got into it. The only 'makeup' I wear is chapstick! (LOL) Thankfully I have good skin and can pull it off ;)

I'm just the opposite. I used to wear minimal makeup when I worked, and was younger, but now I rarely wear it. If we go out to dinner or somewhere nice, I wear it. I think your gorgeous period!

I always wear moisturising eye gel, face moisturiser, and mascara. I usually wear foundation too. I wear eye shadow when we go out somewhere special and if I remember lipstick, although I don't see the point of it as it always disappears after about 30 minutes!

I would love to know what eye liner you use. I've found since I got older that if I put it above the eyelashes, I end up with a black line in the crease of my eyelid. I've also tried putting kohl pencil on the inside of my eyelashes but after a while I end up with "panda eyes"!

My lashes hit my glasses too, so I try to keep the mascara short.

My mum wore make up and perfume almost every day of her life - until the last few months before she died at nearly 90!

I only wear it if I want to look good: for work, going out, etc. In the summer and on the weekends I barely wear it.

I've worn it every day since I was 12 years old (the age I started covering my acne). Usually I wear moisturizer with SPF, make-up primer, eye primer, foundation, blush, powder, eyebrow filler, eye shadow, and mascara. On lazy days, to the gym, or while camping/fishing my minimum is SPF moisturizer, foundation, blush, powder, and mascara. In my teens and twenties I would skip it for gym, camping, and fishing... but the skin just isn't what it once was and there always seems to be a camera around these days! Remember when you only had your photo taken a couple times a year?

I don't; only when I work or go to church or to a special event.

I really need to do the moisturizer/sunscreen thing. I read several good replies about that.

I wouldn't go out of the house when I was young without makeup because I had acne. Other than foundation I would always wear mascara otherwise you can't even see my lashes. I usually wear a tinted lipgloss too but it wears off and I don't retouch it.

I wear less now actually because of age spots. A few years ago I started getting them and had a couple TCA peels at a salon I bartered services with. When I found out how easy it was to give yourself a TCA peel, I started doing them at home and the age spots disappeared and my previous textured face became more refined so now I wear sunscreen, sometimes tinted only occasionally. Most often I wear foundation but I'm totally comfortable going out without it now.

When I was younger, I would not be caught dead without makeup. Now I only use eye shadow, eye liner and mascara. I only use lip gloss when my lips feel dry. I've tried wearing concealer, but I think it brings out my wrinkles.

Yes! I wear make up every day - without it I look washed out as I am fair with light brows and lashes.

for me the hardest part about being on vacation is knowing there will be many photos and therefore I am wearing make up everyday.....too much work for me...when at home in Mexico I wear it to go out but not on errands as I just do sunglasses and lipstick and maybe some blush.

Moisturizer, sunscreen, and lip balm. I like Burt's Bees with pomegranate oil. On special occasions I'll put on a little kohl, mascara, blush, eyebrow pencil, perhaps lipstick. But I work at home and seldom leave the house, so make-up is a rarity for me.

I only use lipstick but it is more like lip gloss and it is soon gone. When I was young I used mascara and blush but now that I'm 65 I don't use any eye makeup. Occasionally use concealer... I have age spots. I don't even colour my hair any more. I don't mind being au natural it feels better than trying to cover my age which I'm pretty sure wont work. People tell me I look youthful so I'm happy with that. When I look in the mirror I see and old lady but there's nothing we can do about that is there? I still have lots of makeup including foundation and lots of creams and sun screen but it just sits there. Here in the north sunscreen doesn't really get to be necessary most of the year but lately I have to remind myself to put it on.

I'm the opposite, when I was younger I was really into make-up with eye-liner and the whole shebang and now that I probably need it more I can't be bothered with it. At best now I only use a bit of concealer and lipstick and that's becoming less and less.

I do and similar to you i cant go out in public without it.Like you never wore much in highschool and don't know what triggered wearing more..... I am however kind of paranoid with my extended foundation use over the years as i think it might have metals or other harmful chemicals in it (hasnt stopped me) but we'll see!

ps:I'm am in my final year of my Optician diploma before getting my licence and the darkening of the iris due to glaucoma medication is a very interesting titbit of info that I never knew, learn something new everyday!

Yes ~ foundation, mascara, color on my brows, and lip color. Almost every day, sometimes not on Saturday if I don't go out.

Nope, no make-up for me. I wear it so rarely (once every coupla years) that I feel silly to have it on. I had a friend who worked at a cosmetics counter in Macy's who "did' me up once - still thought I looked silly - think she gave up on me!! I DO faithfully use moisturizer and sunscreen, though.

Sure I wear makeup!! But not much. And generally not on my way to the gym. My SPF 15 "BB" (beauty balm) tinted moisturizer is a great product, has some "diffusion" effect for the crows feet! Foundation never. Concealer occasionally and if necessary. Cream blush, not powder. Eyeliner (often blue but not very much, smudged, barely visible). Blonde eyebrow pencil. No mascara -- yucky with my contacts. Love love love lipstick which is my main go to-- lip stain, or matt, or one of those butter-type gloss things . . . pretty much always in some shade of blued pink.

    Makeup is fun, right?

I always wear make-up if I'm leaving the house. I don't, however, wear as much as I did when I was younger. I usually wear a tinted moisturizer with mineral makeup brushed on over it (SPF 15 a must with the AZ sun!) I have to pencil in my brows because as s teen I over-tweezed and they didn't grow back - to bad my legs didn't follow suit from shaving emoticon Then a plum or coral lipstick and a swoosh of mascara. When going somewhere special, I also use liquid eyeliner. I don't think most of us wear make-up because we are vain but because we just don't feel well groomed without it - at least that how I feel.

Moisturizer, sunscreen and lipstick are every day when I leave the house. On special occasions I will do full make up. Never did a lot most of my life, none going thru menopause, it would just melt right off. The humidity in Florida is not conducive to a lot of makeup. Eye brows I have colored when I have my hair colored. At 72, I am not looking to impress anyone!

Some days I don't wear any. If I'm going somewhere, I'll use blush, mascara, maybe some eyeshadow and lipstick. I really need to use moisturizer more. I do use sunscreen if I'm going to be in the sun, but not otherwise.

I have one white eyebrow and one blonde one. I haven't found anything that will make my white one match the other, so I just try to hide it behind bangs and glasses rims.

no make up for me either, I use sun screen and moisturizer, when I go some where special, I put on mascara and lip stick, sometimes a bit of foundation, but usually no, although I am sure it helps what God gave me, just lazy I guess.

I could probably learn a thing or two from you.

Because of glaucoma & Cataracts I don't wear make up anymore on the eyes but the eyebrows get a little darkening pencil and when i go to dinner or out i add a little lip color is all for me thanks.

When teaching I would not leave the house without foundation. Blush depends on how much I've been outside! Now that I'm retired, I am not wearing it daily at home, but still wear foundation to go out. I have splotchy complexion and need it covered and smoothed over. Age spots look horrible in pictures!

I almost never wear make-up. I have oily skin, even at 70, and make-up simply doesn't stay on. I do use moisturizer, sun screen and lip gloss, but that's it.

When I taught, I wore makeup every day. When I retired, I swore I would never leave the house without at least some blush and mascara. After 4 years of retirement, I've gotten very blasť about it. Some days when I go out I wear it, other times I have the attitude "why bother?" I'm always somewhat surprised how much better I look with some color but it just doesn't seem that important to me anymore. (although, I will admit, that I always hope I don't see anyone I know!) emoticon

No makeup for me...unless it's a special occasion & I'm going out for the evening. When I was going through menopause, I would perspire so much that I felt like my face was melting, so stopped wearing it & just never went back to it on a daily basis. And ya know what? I don't miss it at all! I do moisturize daily tho...& of course, living in Florida, I do use sunscreen!

Really sorry for the loss of your sister.

Why do you look down at women who wear makeup to the gym?

I am 55 years old and I only wear a little make up if I am going somewhere like a wedding and I am getting all dressed up. I only wore mascara when I was in school and when I got married my DH told me I looked better without any makeup so that was it for me. I have used oil of olay every day since I was in high school thanks to my mom who also wore it. I started using the one with sunscreen when it came out. I am also a sun loving girl. Heading to the beach in two days to spend time with the kids. emoticon
