Speed training

It was hot and muggy after work yesterday, and I wasn't sure if it would storm, so I ran on the treadmill. I decided to run 3 miles, but this time I focused on speed. I normally run pretty slow, generally a 12-minute mile. Last night I was able to average under 11 minutes. It felt really good! I even managed to run a bit on an incline! I think the great thing about running is that it never gets old. You can always set new goals for yourself and keep it fresh. I was so focused on improving my time last night that the 3 miles went by really fast and I didn't notice how hard it was or how tired I was because I had something to focus on!
The Bix 7-mile race is only a month away! I'm not even close to being able to run 7 miles, but I decided that it doesn't matter. My goal is to finish the race and have fun! I found a route in my town that I can do that's a bit over 7 miles, so if I can run/walk that several times before the Bix, I'll be ok!
