a very loooong day

Wednesday, June 26, 2013

Oh my word what a day! I'm sooo greatful its over with. Work went ok, the kids were up at my inlaws for about 4 hrs so that helped some. Tonight was a different story. The boys were off the walls completely tonight and have just settled down for the night. Man, all the bickering and fighting is nuts! My oldest has discovered he doesn't like the fact that dad works nights. How does one explain the situation so he will understand it? He misses him and wants to do stuff with him, but dads always busy with the farm or work...HELP! My sons 7 needs his dad terribly and I haven't got a clue as to how to help him. Any advise would help from whoever! Well I hope you have a good night...thanks again.

That is so hard. I know for me I was going to work and going to school and it was very intense last semester. My son acted up a lot and told me that with everything I was doing (he is 8) that I had no time for him anymore. Of course I explained that what I was doing was important and would help the family later on, but he was having none of it. I decided to start taking just a few moments that I did have and made it quality time. Just asking him what he was up to, how was school things like that.
I also spent time alone with him when I did have time off and that helped a lot.
Maybe you can take your sons to meet his dad for lunch breaks? Might be a nice break for your husband and special time for your son.
That is really hard. Kids just don't understand, but we as parents have to do the best we can. I know for me, the mommy guilt was huge! However, it was one semester that I had to do it. I was gone from 7am - 10pm. Yeah, it was rough. I will never do that again.
Good luck!
