After being away for a week, I was so looking forward to last night's run. I enjoy the people, the time to work on pace, form, and endurance. I also love the post-run gatherings.
American Running Company Clearwater, FL
My Running Store!
When I got to American Running Company, I signed in, then spoke to the owner Chris, who has become a good friend, about the next generation of ASICS shoes. New styles are coming out for Winter 2013 and Kayano's 20th Anniversary. Can you say "glow in the dark" shoes? They've also gone retro on a number of models with great new colors
Anyway, everyone goes out to start on the overpass into our urban route. I warmed up then followed the group. Bringing up the rear was Chris with his 7 yr old daughter & 6 yrs old son. Aiden. Aiden kept on running ahead so I told Chris I'd run with him.
It was deja vu from my mile run in Nebraska! Every time I caught up to him, I would tell him I was right behind him then he put that kid burst on! Basically, we were doing intervals, kid style. We were laughing and having a great time. We did a mile then Chris turned around with the kids, and I joined suit. After 1.5 miles, Chris & his daughter came up to us. I told Aiden, I was gonna race to the finish. He said do it! I opened up with a 7 minute pace and never looked back.
When we all met back at the store, there was beer, wine coolers, pop, & water waiting. Nacho Cheese, spinach, and salsa with tortilla chips accompanied. I took a Dos Equis to experience that after run goodness! Aiden comes in, fills his paper plate with chips & dips, and sat next to me. I told him he was fast, he laughed , and said it was fun. He commenced to challenge me to a chip race but I was so over my head and forfeited victory. I told his mom, Stephanie, co-owner, that I will bring my Granddaughter to a run soon. She told me to let her know as their daughter was the same age. I get such a great feeling, knowing these kids will grow up in a healthy environment. Gianna is already embracing our example.
The Carbo Family!
The little head next to Mom is Aiden aka The Flash!
Shortly after, Stephanie & I got to talking about programs she was creating. ARC had already started a race team, and a run group. Now she was putting together a health/nutrition group and seminar to go around the area. She wanted to know if I had speaking experience and would I like to be a part of this endeavor. Really? We're getting together next week to review what she has and work on the goals. I also told her about SparkPeople. She knew it. I will definitely show how I use and abuse SP in my healthy lifestyle. I also see this as an opportunity to get accredited in healthy areas I'm interested in!
So, I think I was accurate on the info shared in this race report! The one thing I would like others to take from this is to have fun in your training and on the journey! Embrace it all!
