Most people join SparkPeople because they want to lose weight. It may be 100 lbs. or "just" 10 lbs., but I've come to the conclusion that it's still a "journey." I've read many highlights of Sparkers who have lost over 100 lbs., 1/2 their body weight or are now 1/2 their original size. That is
and I don't want to take anything away from their accomplishments.
However, the journey to health isn't easy for anyone. I lost 40 lbs. I originally joined Spark in 2009, but didn't stick with it long. Then, I tried it again in 2011. At first I only used it to log my nutrition and exercise and occasionally read an article. After I lost the weight I began to blog. That's when the true SPARK came alive.
We may join to lose weight initially, however we soon find a community. Most of us are surrounded by great family and friends, but unless they are also on their own journey to health, they simply don't understand. It's hard to continually be supportive of something that you don't understand or, in some cases, don't want to understand.
Here people celebrate a 1/2 pound weight loss and console when the scale goes up one pound. Neither are a big deal to others outside of our community, but we know how it feels in both cases. Sometimes we need give
and other times we need to give a kick in the butt. But we are here together.
Together to give advice, support, encourage, brainstorm, get tough, and develop friendships that none of us thought could exist on a website. Yes, the journey to a healthier "us" is ours, but it's much better together!!
for being a part of my journey!
