Stage 1: done. On to stage 2!

Stage one: lose 15 lbs by my Disneyland vacation: done! I went on vacation down 13.8 pounds, I'll take it!

Vacation was wonderful; it was great to get away. I started in San Diego for a couple of days while my mom attended a work conference, and then we boarded a train to Anaheim and spent 3 days in Disneyland. A little back story: I never get sick (you know where this is headed). It's been 18 months since I even had a little cold. I was feeling like I might be coming down with something before we left for California, but it seemed to go away. Then the moment we boarded to train to Anaheim, I knew it was bad news. I was SO SICK. So, so, so, so sick. I had the worst sore throat ever, couldn't swallow, had trouble breathing, running a fever, it was awful. I couldn't talk, couldn't hear much - my mom and I were texting back and forth and we were next to each other. There aren't words for this awfulness. But I had to try and have a good time - my mom put this trip together for the two of us, and I couldn't spend it in the hotel. She would ask me every hour if I wanted to go back to the hotel and I just kept going. If I hadn't kept going, I probably wouldn't have gotten as sick, but that's another story :)

I came back from vacation down 2 lbs - my appetite was killed and we probably walked 5 miles a day. All I could eat were milkshakes though, so I was nervous about possible weight gain. I went to the doctor for the first time in ELEVEN YEARS (for a medical reason, I've gone for preventative care visits). Turns out I was dealing with a double inner ear infection and strep throat (sorry to anybody who came into contact with me at Disneyland. Truly sorry. I was a total disease spreader). I was sidelined for about a week, feeling better and just starting to be able to hear again.

This last weekend, we had a camping trip planned with some good friends that I didn't want to skip, that included a nearly 10 mile hike around Silver Falls State Park, where there are 10 waterfalls on this one hike. It was a pretty tough hike! I burned 2300 calories. The most I think I've ever burned in my life in one event. I did over-indulge in camping treats, but thats ok when you burn so much, right?!

I jumped on the scale yesterday and had to do a double-take. It was up. Quite a lot. 8lbs I think. I was so horrified I jumped right off and didn't full process it. I don't know if it those milkshakes were late to join the party or what, but I hope that wasn't true weight gain. I am feeling quite bloated, and I hope its just that. But if it is true weight gain, I'll deal with it and move on.

Next goal: my husband and I have tickets to Zac Brown Band in September, and I'm surprising him by flying his little sister in to go with us. He's going to be SO EXCITED! I want to lose another 20lbs by that time, which is about 2 lbs a week. On your mark, get set, GO!

Your sickness sure doesn't sound like much fun at all! I am very sorry to hear that it came at such an inconvenient time!

I really don't think you truly gained 8 lbs of fat! You are probably retaining water or something on those lines. But no matter what....keep on trucking on! emoticon

Wow! That trip sounds just dreadful :( I'm sorry you couldn't enjoy yourself as much as you had planned. Weight is such a funny thing sometimes. I fully feel like our bodies take a while to process it when we pile on the exercise or overeat. That said, I doubt your milkshakes really harmed too much since that was basically all you were eating! I bet you were under calories for most days :(

I guess I'm more saying that maybe all that hiking hasn't quite kicked in yet. You sound to me like you are doing everything right to meet your new goal!

:)
