YYC floods

Tuesday, June 25, 2013

I have found a few things to get me out of the house through Meetup.com (they have an app for the Iphone as well). Last monday I took Anissa to a wading pool where we met another mommy and her little girl. This wading pool is a lot warmer and Anissa loved it. We were going to go again this monday but the facility was closed due to my subject.

We have had a weird weather pattern going on. Rain, rain and more rain. All that rain led to the rivers flowing too high. Thursday the town of Canmore got hit with floods and they predicted that Calgary was going to get hit as well. The city did a good job and evacuated all the places they thought would flood thursday evening, by morning it was no joke. No human lives were lost that I am aware of, lots of damage though. The zoo got hit pretty hard, they managed to move most of their animals, but some birds refused to be moved and one peacock perished. Downtown got hit pretty hard as well, it still is not open to the public. I've been seeing pictures on facebook of friends' damage and it is unbelievable. Basements were right full and left a foot of sediment. The Stampede grounds were flooded as well and stampede is supposed to start next week. It's a big money attraction so they are focusing on getting that all cleaned up. It is amazing all the volunteers that came out to aid in the clean up of the city, I would have gone myself but what can I do with a almost 6 month old tagging along.

So because of the rain, I haven't been able to get out for a run. I had plans to run on thursday with another mom, but the weather didn't cooperate and good thing, look what happened! So we have exchanged numbers and plan on getting out on the pathways soon. Once things settle down from the floods I will getting out more and meeting more moms, going to splash parks.

Today I managed to get downstairs for a leg work out, it was a good workout despite the minor hiccup of having to soothe Anissa back to sleep, DH just can't be quite. Did some stretching and enjoyed my protein shake. I am also going to try to wake up early and do some cardio videos in the basement, I have the insanity workouts so I will be giving them a try.

I'm finding that walking down to the river each day to have a look, having to clean out my fridge, tending to the yard have meant I am having a very active week. Not having much food for a couple of days also didn't do me any harm. Stress always burns calories for me, as well. So
I've gone down 2 pounds from Tues the 18 to Tues the 25!

I think meeting up with some other Moms is AWESOME! I totally did that when my kid was little- except they were all much older than me at the time-LOL. But, the kids had fun and that's what its all about :-)
Sorry about all the flooding--- we had a bad T-storm here last night and the Golf Course where my son works got super flooded as well--- so he only could work 1 hr today :( Germany got hit with HORRRIBLE floods last month, along with parts of the Czech Republic and Austria. I saw some pics--- the water was as tall as a 2 story house in some parts- Paussau for example.
I am also ALWAYS amazed at how people come together in time of need - it makes up for those other times when I think what A-holes people can be-LOL.

Woohoo! That's awesome! Not about the floods of course, what a tragedy. Finally not raining in Edmonton today, quite a mood booster. Also my time is freed up a bit now too, as I am getting a ride to and from work....takes my excuses away...lol...
