A little monkey business

Tuesday, June 25, 2013

I haven't blogged in a week - it doesn't feel like it's been that long, but life has been busy. Princess had her birthday party this weekend - thank goodness for sunny weather so the restless band of teenagers could hang outside! At the same time, we were watching the 2 youngest grandbabies. It was exhausting, but a lot of fun as well. I took the girls to the park while the partiers played croquet & charades. When we got to the little local park, there was another family there, 3 kids a mom and a grandma. Mom and grandma stood outside the fence talking and smoking cigarettes while the kids played. Whereas I jumped right on the climby toys with the girls. It feels so good to be able to keep up with a 3 and 5 year old, you know? Up the ladders, down the slides, on the swings, etc. But it was when I helped K go across the monkey bars that I got a wild idea. Once she was safely across, I set out to cross the monkey bars myself - and I made it all the way across!! This may not sound like a big deal, but I have NEVER, in all my 52 years, had the arm/core strength sufficient to do the monkey bars. I was so dang tickled with myself! Of course, the girls thought nothing of it - Grammy's tall enough, why wouldn't she be able to do the monkey bars, right? But DH was properly impressed when I told him later, because he knows just what an accomplishment that is for me. So nice to know all the strength training and core work and everything have really made a difference in my abilities. I'm so glad I'm the one on the INSIDE of the fence, playing with the grandkids instead of watching from the OUTSIDE!

Have a great Tuesday, Sparkies!

It sure is a rush to realize you can do something you never could do, even as a kid. Monkey bars, pushups, pullups, run 5 miles, whatever. It's a great feeling!

I'm glad you got to experience that joy.
