I had a boss whose favorite saying was "if you always do what you always did, you'll always get what you always got." In times requiring extra and heroic efforts he also liked to say, "Blood makes the grass grow green" - but that's another story about football.
In looking at my eating pattern, I do great during the day but like many people, I'm a night eater. And what I remember most about my mom was her getting up in the middle of the night to eat ice cream or cake - anything high in carbs, sugar, and fat.
The other thing is that I've been eating dinner at 5p since I was little. Mom insisted that an early dinner would keep you from nighttime snacking - well, it never stopped her. So I decided to do something different.
Last night, I ate dinner at the (for me) very advanced hour of 6:30p. And boy howdy was I hungry by then! I had to keep reminding myself that I could wait another 20 minutes ... another ten ... another 5 ...
My ultimate goal is to eat dinner at 7p and then eat nothing more till breakfast. I didn't snack last night, and maybe that was "beginner's luck." But we'll see how it goes.
