A Breakfast of Champions

Tuesday, June 25, 2013

This shall be today's breakfast choice with fresh fruit when I go downstairs to the Starbucks on the Lobby level.
I have put in 115 minutes of cardio and ST.
On to the shower, breakfast, and then professional development for teachers at the ISTE conference in San Antonio, Texas.

Sidebar with self: Yeah, they want us to consider ourselves as professionals, yet pay us like paupers. Go figure!

Yes, isn't it strange that teaching is the only profession where the title "professional" is supposed to replace adequate pay. Well, I have seen that done in certain other jobs where they give the employee a title en lieu of pay, and it isn't until later that she (it's usually a "she") finally realizes, "Hey wait a minute."

I'm wondering if it evolved to that and stuck for teachers because initially they had little more education than the students they were teaching in the little one-room school houses. Then when they were required to be fully degreed and acredited and were finally called professionals, they accepted that "bone" they were thrown without demanding the due compensation. And they've just never caught up. I don't's puzzling. In the public schools they have to try to teach their subject, while teaching discipline, social skills, and counseling kids with personal problems. In Europe, teachers don't get paid as much as in the U.S. (even most corporate positions are not paid as highly), but they only teach...period!
