Swedish Spark

Found a page that seem to do the same as Spark People do - but focused on Europe and with a lot of swedish people attending.

It made me see how "nerdy" this health thing is - it is a lot of me, me, me. I should get these apps for tracking exercise (love my Runkeeper!) and nutrition and diagram functions for registers of your weight loss or thinner measures or eaten vegetables.

Those were the things that pulled me in to Spark, but what kept me here are the Spark friends. And - once again - I will honor the point system... because without it I would probably never had gotten involved before I got tired. If there had not been a point system that triggered my competitive mind, I would not had passed the threshold of setting up my own page, joined and visited spark teams daily and made it a daily chore to comment on other Spark Members blogs. It is silly but the fact that I have reached the highest level possible in points has made me a little more "lazy" with Spark People.

I am on Facebook but I am less present there than on Spark People, I scroll through the status updates for inspiring articles or links but rarely post myself because I find it very uninteresting only use it in connection with theatre, to promote our shows... and to get in contact with people I have something to say - but this "i am having a nice day" updates does not inspire me at all, only occupies time to scroll through..

Anyway - I really think that I want my life to be about something more important than me, me, me... nor meaning that my health and selfcare is trifling, it is important but not that interesting really...

Clouds are collecting, seems to be another rainy day in Sweden...

    I used to FB a lot, but now that I am ensconced in Sparkpeople, FB has fallen by the wayside. I only use it now for family and friends far away.

    I also like the points and the awards for passing a certain number of fitness minutes per month. I get bored if I'm not pushing myself toward a goal of some kind. The big difference between Spark and Facebook is the encouragement we give each other. We can talk about ourselves (the good, bad, and ugly) here because we've all been there at some point.

    You are right MEDIPEDI. This life is not about me, me, me. I take care of a lot of others. So it leaves little for me. I am trying not to let others over rule either. It is about a healthy balance. The points used to motivate me but I just need motivating. I need that healthy balance, because I am tired, tired of not taking a little better care of myself. Again HEALTHY BALANCE. So thank you for the post.

    Funny, the points don't motivate me at all; guess I'm just not a competitor. I think like many support groups it seems me, me, me because the best way of helping is to share experience, strength and hope. Doesn't work nearly as well if you're sharing someone else's experience!
Hopefully all of our lives involve more than fitness and health as a focus; but without them I'll bet it doesn't. Illness can be all consuming! Be well and have fun along the way! emoticon

    Spark is the first social network (if you can call it that) that I ever joined. The common thread of fitness / diet that ties it together works better for me than anything FB and the others like it have come up with.

That competitive business about the points doesn't hurt, either, lol...
