baby steps and security blankets

Tuesday, June 25, 2013

There are all kinds of steps, but we all must start with baby steps. I've had some big changes this year, and with all of them there were steps. It started in February with steps down the aisle. Those were some awesome steps....

But after that came moving. You had two people who have lived alone for 12+ years and all the stuff they accumulated. there has been loads of life changing steps. Releasing the attachment to things. Letting go of our security blankets. With that came the thought I'm taking all these steps, it's time to take the step of losing some of these excess pounds. Little did I realize the steps were connected. Our home is full of stuff that we were moving from one side to the other. We are now taking baby steps. We pick a task we can actually accomplish and only focus on that until it's done. You see we kept trying to get the entire thing done at one time and all we ever did was make it worse.

I'm thinking about how we are making progress. It's slow, but there's progress. It took us both 12 years to accumulate all this stuff it wasn't going to go away or find a place overnight. The same goes for the extra pounds. I accumulated this extra weight over years. It was my security blanket. I lost the weight twice before and twice before my heart was broken. You see I was one of those girls that thought if I get skinny I will meet the right man. Well let's just say it worked for me the other way around. My place in life now makes me feel secure. My security blanket is no longer needed so these 35-40 lbs can go. I don't need you any more. But like settling in my new home, it will take baby steps to get there. It will also take LOTS of fast, slow anyway I can get them steps.

So I go throwing out the security blanket taking my baby steps for a walk!

Congrats on the marriage first of all! :D

You are right in recognizing that it's about the accumlation of small steps. Along with that? Persistance...persistance in the face of disappointment, plateaus, and difficulty.

You can do it!!

emoticon first blog! So proud of you! And I agree, anything can be accomplished by 'baby steps' and changing one thing at a time.
