Life Update

Monday, June 24, 2013

It's been about a month and a half since I've last updated so here's what's going on with my life...

We wrapped up the school year in mid-June. It went really well & I'm really enjoying my summer so far! I ended on a Wednesday, left that Saturday for the Outer Banks in North Carolina. Stayed in the OBX from Saturday until Thursday, had a wonderful time with one of my best friends and her family. As soon as I got to the OBX my boyfriend called me and said that the swollen lymph node he thought he had was becoming very painful and he was going to see a doctor (I knew it hurt b/c he NEVER goes to the doctor). He ended up having an abscess in his groin and having it to have it cut open and drained...eww! The incision was the size of a golf ball originally...now it's down to about the size of a small raisin. Then my friend and I came home Thursday, I had a rehearsal dinner for another wonderful friend's wedding on Friday (after the obligatory pampering sessions of manicures/pedicures/and the like). Her wedding was this past Saturday. It was absolutely lovely! Everything was perfect, she looked beautiful, the groom looked handsome, and it was a blast. I even made it through my speech without being a stuttering mess (I was the maid of honor and shaking like a leaf the entire time I had to speak!).

Sunday morning I wake up, after not much sleep, to find that my 14 1/2 year old German Shepard, Storm, had passed away over night. In even worse luck, my entire family, with exception to my mom, was at the beach for the weekend. My boyfriend and I had to move the dog until my dad could come home and take care of things later that evening. My mom was an absolute mess...she loves the dog more than all 3 of us kids!...and I was a bawling mess as well. I felt really bad that my boyfriend had to 'participate' in the whole matter as well and see us two blubbering fools. I had to pull myself together enough to go run several errands for his college graduation party that day! Several people backed out at the last minute, including his own mom, so we had extra work to do. We had the party and it was a wonderful time with friends and family. Until the end....when my phone rang and my mom and sister let me know that my oldest nephew, Jake, age 2 1/2, was going to the hospital.
Jake ended up being admitted into the children's hospital for croup, very uncommon for as old as he is. He was discharged today and will have to see a pediatric ENT to make sure all is okay anatomically. The doctors don't understand why he keeps getting croup, this is the 4th or 5th time he's had it, second time he's been hospitalized for it.

I'm REALLY looking forward to the cruise that my boyfriend and I are going on this Thursday to celebrate his college graduation. We could really use some R&R! Because of his abscess, he isn't able to get in the water b/c the wound has to stay dry and covered....so we're both a little upset about that one. We were planning to snorkel in the Bahamas. He will literally eat his way through the entire cruise! I will try to be more careful about my choices!

In some other good news, I've finally lost a bit of the weight I put back on. Only 1.5lb, but it's better than nothing! I'm really trying to keep myself on a schedule with exercise. I really enjoy walking and the weather has been really crazy this year so it throws me off lots of days. I'm trying to get back into a strength training routine again as well b/c I really stopped doing that and that's where I was seeing and feeling the most results!

I also started a new Mary Kay business! I figured it would be something fun to do and it would be a little summer job for me that I could also keep up with during the school year. A little shameless self-promotion never hurt anyone so I'll tell you that I will ship anywhere...so if you'd like to check out my website and place an order, go right ahead! my website is www.marykay.com/lturssline I'm really excited about it & I'm trying to get it off the ground and running emoticon

Pictures of the wedding and OBX will be coming hopefully this week. When we get back from the cruise I'll add those as well.
Hope you're all doing well & still reaching for your goals!

So sorry about Storm. Sounds like he had a good life but losing someone is always tough.

Hope your nephew will be ok. I'm not familiar with croup.

Best of luck to the boyfriend. I know you will still have a great time together. Enjoy.

Sorry about your nephew. Croup is usually caused by a virus, although it can sometimes be caused by bacteria. It is very contagious. Someone or something in his life might be a carrier. Is he in daycare? I would recommend disinfecting where he spends the majority of his time. That might help. Hope he feels better. I also hope your boyfriend heals quickly.

Wow! Your life has been jam-packed lately. Even with all that going on you still lost some weight. Way to go. I'm sorry to hear that you lost Storm. Having a pet that long and then losing it makes a hole in your life. Let yourself grieve. It helps. Hope your nephews get over this croup attack. One of my kids, my son, used to get croup and just the sound of that cough always unnerved me. He never ended up in the hospital, though. I can't even imagine it being that bad. Take care of yourself and think good thoughts. Even if you won't get to go snorkeling, you'll still have a nice vacation.
