Day 54/ update on dad's independence - much better!

Monday, June 24, 2013

I am staying on track with eating, drinking, tracking and exercising! emoticon

4 spark videos today emoticon

I talked to the PT person at the facility today - she came in a had a chat with my dad, my mom and I.
First: dad has been declared a fall risk - hence the wheel chair more than NOT
second : Dad is not being as proactive as he needs to be to get help to go for a walk or being wheeled to and fro activities (if he is tired from wheeling himself or needs to use the restroom, the aids will help him get to his room)
third: they are just as afraid as I am of dad losing what strength he has - so I am going to help him do strength training 2 x a week - as he is no longer in therapy

I feel much much better! Communication is a wonderful thing! It just takes time sometimes to find out the info from the right person.

As I continue this journey of mine I find out more and more information.

Tomorrow I am going to post on information I have learned about aging and how some things are a new phenomena in regards to caring for old old people.

God Bless!

You are doing really well dealing with your father. They have to know that you are there and not happy with his treatment . Great job on your healthy eating and exercising.

Keep advocating for your dad. He will get better care if they know someone cares and is watching. It can be a long, lonely journey, but you will always know you were there and did the best you could.

That is good news and also you can use the bands too for your father, just make sure that it is not the tougher ones. Let him build up his strength and they can be used on the lower part of the body. Just ask the PT person and they should be able to help you.
