Obesity Debate

Monday, June 24, 2013

The American Medical Association has classfied obesity as a disease. I have mixed feelings about this especially with my distain for the BMI. As I mentioned on Saturday, I'm still considered obese according to the BMI. But physically, my blood pressure is low, my glucose levels are normal and I have no problems with my cholesterol levels.

Yes, I agree. BMI is extremely misleading.

I agree 100%. I am considered obese, but my heart rate is low and my cholestorl is normal and blood pressure is good.
I think that obesity is a case by case story. Not everyone is over weight for the same reason. I don't know what good will come out with the new classification. We will have to wait and see.

I agree, although I am classified in the "normal" category. There needs to be a better way to account for body fat percentage, visceral fat percentage, muscle mass, etc. All of these measures are so incredibly subjective, but researchers to to make a blanket statement that supposedly encompasses all of us. Frustrating.
