I wanted to pass this along to you all!

Have you gotten an response to anything that just didn't seem right???

Today I got a response to a pic. on my Spark Page that got me to wondering.

It was a response giving me their e-mail address to write if I wanted their friendship.

If any of you have, let me know so we can see if it is the same message and intent.

It may be intirely innocent, but, let's see for ourselves.

don't do anything that makes you uncomfortable, as in any situation.
I don't know if SparkPeople would/could actually do anything so be your own best friend

Janet, There's a new member with the username Gordon-Powers who is looking for friends and asking them to contact him thru a personal email address. He friended me a few days ago after I'd welcomed him to SP when he posted to the new member board. He also posted on my page with a request for friendship. He says he is mildly to moderately disabled. He has info about himself on his page. Is this the same one you heard from? Obviously, giving out your private email address or any other personal info on here is not a smart thing to do with a stranger, but I think this guy probably is simply lonely and looking for friends. I told him I don't share personal info but that I'd be happy to be friends here on SP. I haven't heard back from him yet. This isn't the place for him to be looking for email pals, but I don't see him as a danger or any reason at all to panic as long as people use a little common sense. emoticon

Thanks for the information. I will be on the look out. That sounds fishy to me. If they wanted your friendship they can do it here on SP.

stick with safe. I have shared my email with some SP but only for "legitimate" reasons and only after we have been aparking for a long time.

I would rather err on the side of caution...than the alternative! I have a couple great friends from SP who also became my friends on FB...tho I knew them a long time here before it progressed there!! emoticon

Better to be safe and don't give out your email address; they can contact you thru your email on SP.

It's strange to me that this person wants your email when this person can talk to you through SP. I wouldn't give it out.

most likely this person is perfectly innocent, someone who is new to SP and is looking for support and friendship

This is strange asnd if you do not feel comfortable, just do nothing. Wait and see what that person does. If it continues to look fishy, then I would contact the Sparkpeople Team.

Never click a link you are unsure of...and do not give your email address out until you know someone very can be their friend on spark people first...get to know them before giving ANY info.

It's good to be cautious! I agree with a comment below... if you want friendship, befriend them on SP to start with...

You can also ask SP @

right, if you want their friendship, just befriend them.

and I go with lalatidah on this, keep spark within spark and keep private (personal) stuff separate. you never know, and you don't need to learn the hard way. on the other hand, you're not losing anything by not connecting.

I agree with EMMABE1. I keep my SparkPeep stuff within SP. Safer that way.

No - but I would not be responding to an email address nor clicking on a link - if the person wants to contact you they have Sparkmail to use!!
