Just got back from a great weekend backpack to Lawrence Lake with 3 girlfriends, and found our way to another Lost Lake from it (cross-country but just about a quarter mile).
We took the Barrett Lake Jeep Trail from Wright's Lake--maybe 6 miles in- its been closed to Jeeps for over a year due to environmental reasons, but we did see a few jeeps in the first mile or so, but it looks like they were 'officially' in trying to find ways to re-route the trail around meadows, etc. After the first creek crossing, we didn't see any more jeeps. After that, we saw a couple mountain bikers, but no one else until we got to Barrett Lake, which is just outside Desolation Wilderness. Lost and Lawrence are inside the Wilderness, and we had a permit to camp there, which is a good thing, because there were quite a few young men camping out doing guy stuff at Barrett lake (throwing rocks down the cliff, having illegal campfires, etc.) , and we were glad to move on. We had Lawrence Lake all to ourselves, despite being less than a half mile beyond them. And it was beautiful!!
Beautiful views on the trail in
A creek crossing (outlet creek of Barrett Lake)
Area where we camped and dined
Finding Lost Lake - fifth one on my Hidden/Lost Lake quest (5 more to go!)
Dining well in the wilderness!
I'm still a little tired today, but I'm looking forward to more backpacks this summer.
