And an injury

I woke up Sunday with some shooting pain in my left arm. No, I'm not having a heart attack. My exercise on Saturday was a bike ride, which did not hurt my arm (my butt is a different matter haha). I attributed the pain to perhaps sleeping in a bad position, and it dissipated to just a dull ache for the rest of the day. I did a couple hours of yardwork/gardening, and it was still fine.

Sundays i do strength training- arms with dumbells- and core- crunches and planks. I made the bad decision, with the encouragement of my boyfriend, to ignore the discomfort and do my workout anyway. At the end of the first upper body set, excruciating pain went through my arm, and I could not move my upper arm an inch in any direction without crying. I did the alternate heat/ice thing, but it didn't make it feel any better. It was difficult to sleep.

I woke up this morning and I have regained some mobility in my arm, but I still can't move it forward or vertical at all.

This means no swimming today. )= My alternative workout is weightloss yoga, which I also cannot do at the moment. I'm pretty bummed out that I can't get back into the water today- my last swim was Thursday (way too long ago!).

The way I see it I pretty much only have walking (I can't even get on a bike) as an option until this stupid thing heals. Very disappointed and frustrated! PLUS, the scale didn't move this week. Blah! Heal faster body!

    Son of a... you need to catch a break. Seriously. Are there any kickboards at the pool? Its probably better to rest it though and try not to strain anything -- but I'm not a doctor. Have you gotten it checked out?

    You could do kicking drills maybe? I ramped up my swimming workouts too quickly once a few years ago and wound up hurting my shoulder so badly, that I couldn't do any stroke for a few weeks. Thank goodness it wasn't permanent. I couldn't stand being out of the pool that long, so I did a lot of free, fly and back kicking. Hope it feels better soon!

    Be sure you give yourself time to heal from this injury before you start again. In the meantime, take walks! emoticon emoticon

    Do what you can and dont rush it! If you make it worse, it will be much longer than 5 days before you can get back in the water! Take care of yourself first and you will be better off in the long run!

    Ugh, that sucks! I sprained my ankle on New Year's Eve (beer + 4 inch heels=BAD IDEA!) and it was so frustrating to not be able to exercise to the best of my ability. Just eat well and let yourself heal. You definitely don't want to make it worse and prolong the issue.
