too fast? or just right? and thank you for the emotional eater nomination

Monday, June 24, 2013

So, I went for my WW weekly weight in. I lost another 3 pounds. I have had an average of a loss of 3 pounds a week since I started. The "counselor" told me I was going to fast. That I had to slow it down. It wasn't good to lose more then 2 pounds a week.

My question to this is : According to the BMI chart, I could comfortably lose another 50 pounds and still not be at the lower end of the healthy weight for me ( 125-165). And I am still considered obese on the same chart.

I know that the heavier you are the more you lose per week. I didn't expect my weight loss to slow down to 1 or 1.5 pound a week until I only had about 20 pounds to lose.

Now she raised a doubt in my mind. I am still doing 2 hours of exercices 6 times a week. It is a confortable routine : 50 minutes bike ride in the morning, 60 minutes walk with my lovey at night and kettlebell DVD( 45 minutes) 3 times a week.
I eat all of my daily points plus the weekly one. I don't touch the activity points.
I am losing too fast? Should I eat more? ( very scary tought...)

I sooo not want to screw this up.

Thank you for the emotional eater group who nominated me as the team member of the week. Every positive energy helps.

My only thought as I read your blog was you are doing a lot of exercise which is great !Perhaps you are burning more calories than you are putting in because of it. As everyone has said the closer you get to your goal weight the less you will lose. Keep up the wonderful job you are doing! You should be so proud of yourself!! Big High Five!!! Pat

As long as you eat enough you should be fine. If you exercise that much I hope you eat enough protein!. Make sure you can live that way for a long time. If it is too drastic you may have a problem maintaining it. But if all is well and you don't feel deprived you should be fine.

3 lbs a week is not too fast, in my opinion. It WILL slow down the closer you get to your goal weight. Tell the counselor whatever she wants to hear to keep her off your back, but keep on going with your routine. It's working for you!!
I've lost as much as 7 lbs in one week and yes, if you do that consistently it *is* too fast, but trust me, 3 lbs a week is fine. It isn't too fast. It will slow down.

Don't know your whole story so I don't know what counselor this is.

After 38 years of messing up, it became less important whether I was losing too fast or slow (though I was never heavier than the low obese range) and much more important whether or not I was living in a way I could sustain. I have to tell you that many times I had gone through phases I thought were sustainable but were not. However, if the ease is there for now, just go with it. Practice thinking less about weight loss and more about living differently, enjoying a wider variety of food than previously, being more active than you used to be, and filling up on life rather than a preoccupation with losing weight in between meals. It doesn't actually take all day to plan having access to good quality food and the few luscious alternatives you enjoy the most for variety, eat those foods in satisfying quantities, and get moderate exercise. That's all you're doing, making a routine of great habits. Then turn your attention to other pursuits. Don't let them get in the way of the routine, but don't let the routine fool you into thinking that's the focus of life.

And do the enjoy the view from here.
