So I actually woke up in time to go running this morning, shortly after 5:00am. But what woke me up was thunder from the tremendous downpour of rain. Boo!
I'm starting to like running, yes. But I'm not yet crazy enough to go running in the rain. (This has been one of the rainiest summers of the last few years. Good for crops. Not good for kids, runners, or people who don't want to see their kids track mud all over the house.)
And to top off that little bit of disappointment, my scale today is not reflecting the progress I feel I've made this week. Although it gave me two pounds of credit last week, so I guess maybe it's just catching up? I keep thinking, "Is it possible that I ate two pounds of food yesterday?" or "Are the cold meds causing me to retain water?" That's probably true because my rings are tight.
I don't feel as if my self-worth is tied to the numbers on the scale, but it would just be nice if the dang thing APPRECIATED all the hard work I've done in maintaining an average 500 calorie deficit each day, Darn it!
Alright, enough of that. I am once again re-vamping my fitness routine because I really don't like the Tae Bo boot camp dvds. There is too much resistance training in them, and it's too hard for me to keep my heart rate in my training zone when I'm using them. So I'm thinking about changing it to: on the days when I'm not running, either walking 3.75 miles or doing step aerobics interval training dvds.
I didn't really work much, dance-wise last week, and I'm ashamed of that. I think I really need to dance first, and THEN work out, because it's too easy to blow off practice once I've done an hour of rehearsal. I am falling back into my old ways, and not creating a MINDFUL practice session, which is bad.
This week is week 2 of my couch to 5k program, and I'm already realizing that I'm gonna need some "stuff." I picked the sport which requires the least amount of stuff, though, I think. But after having my arms rubbed raw from the seams in the t-shirt, and feeling my shorts crawling up my thighs at every step, I realized I probably need to invest in some REAL running acoutrement.
What I think I need:
1. Shoes. These crappy tennies are killing my feet and ankles. I just hope I can pick up a good pair for around $100. I think I'll go to Swift today or tomorrow.
2. Tank tops or shirts that won't rub my arms. I actually have a ton of dance tank tops, but I was thinking of getting sport shirts that cover my shoulders. I don't really enjoy having my arms burned.
3. Running shorts. Cause fashion shorts aren't working! I need something that isn't going to ride up. Pockets are nice though.
4. Socks. I own ONE pair of decent athletic socks that aren't cotton. The rest of my socks are all cotton or wool. I think I can spring for a half-dozen pair of nylon ones so my toes don't stay wet when I'm running or walking.
