I have always wanted to walk into town. It is over a small mountain (about 1000 feet) and is 6 miles to the edge of town. Today was the first day of VBS so I decided to do it. The weather was perfect; not overly hot, and cloudy.
I coerced dd Molly to walk with me. The first part of the walk was tough on her. Her hip hurts, her knee (she has congenital knee problems) and even her back was hurting walking uphill and on a slant. Once the road evened out a little, she started enjoying the walk.
We started out on the nice relatively flat road
One of the baby skunks was dead beside the road,
but we walked a little further and found something that thrilled us-
three baby skunks!
We kept walking and on the way up the hill we also saw 3 baby raccoons
a jack rabbit,
and several alligator lizards.
Finally, we made it to the top of the hill and started back down.
I love the look of Madrone, which looks like a diseased tree with its peeling bark. This is a healthy tree, though!
We found some little blessings along the way, of course.
And around a bend in the road we could see Roseburg!
It was exciting to see it getting closer.
Finally, we made it to the church for VBS.
It was a great walk and took us just over 2 hours (About 2:10) for about 6.25 miles. Yeah, I would do it again. In fact, I would have walked home if it wasn't getting dark!
Now, my pillow is calling my name, so I leave you with this-
