Trip To Stone Mountain, Georgia

Sunday, June 23, 2013

We took a short overnight trip to Atlanta this week and while we were there we visited Stone Mountain, Georgia. Stone Mountain is made of primarily granite composed of quartz, plagioclase feldspar, microcline and muscovite, with smaller amounts of biotite and tourmaline, according to Wikipedia. The mountain is about 1,686 feet high and has three historic Southern icons, Robert E. Lee, Thomas "Stonewall" Jackson, and Jefferson Davis carved into the front of the mountain.

Here are a few of the pictures that we took.

I love to see the beauty of God's creation in our world. His handiwork is awesome and declares His glory!

it is beautiful! I remember as a kid, we'd run all the way up!

About 15 years ago, when I worked out that way, sis & I would meet and climb the mountain or walk around the base (4.9 miles) everyday after work. That first time climbing after so many years...WHOA! We had forgotten that the second half of the climb is S T E E P!

I miss climbing the mountain. It's a GREAT workout. I have run a few races that go around the base. Tough course...very hilly!

thanks for the memories emoticon

My family visited there when I was a teenager. I thought the place was awesome and agree it is one of Gods' wonderful masterpieces.
