Momentum

Sunday, June 23, 2013

Momentum works both ways. I've been gaining weight now for close to a year and a half. Ugh! Poor eating choices led to more poor eating choices until I rarely thought about what I was putting in my mouth. As far as workouts, I went back & forth. I'd have weeks where I didn't do anything and weeks where I worked out 5 times a week.

I hit a mental "reset" last Monday, so it's only been a week. But what a difference!

I am tracking everything I eat to the best of my ability. And, I've had some HARD choices, but I'm doing terrific! Example: last night my hubby made nachos - Tostitos covered with cheese - in the microwave while we watched a movie. It smelled so GOOD! I ended up just asking for one (they are bite size chips!) and savored it and then ate my delicious frozen greek yogurt. Yum! I was FINE! But, at first I wanted my own plate.

I just returned to working out yesterday. I rode almost 14 mile solo yesterday and almost 14.5 miles solo today. Then I did something totally crazy! I got in my pool to cool off & stretch (the heat index was already 95 at 9:00 am!) and then decided to swim a few laps! Hmmm.... I haven't swam laps in over 2 years. That was after my 2nd sprint triathlon which was the least fun sporting event I've ever done. I thought I was finished with swimming!

Oh, and the swimming was hard! I have to swim back & forth in my pool to get about 25 yards. Well, I only did this 10 times for a total of 250 yards. Not much! BUT... that's more than I've one in 2 years, right?!? And, I actually connected 2 of those swims for a 50 yarder. That was tough!

I'm excited about the week as I try to figure out what I can do: I can swim in the mornings 3 days a week at our pool; I can try a boot camp with my friend; I can bike ride; I can do some classes at the Y. Anything I do has to be done by 7:30 when hubby leaves for work. But, now I'm excited to get out there and do it! I've made this work the past 3 summers, but just haven't made myself do anything this year.

But, it's time! And, I'm living off of the momentum!

What about you? How does your life change in the summer? And how do you get your workouts in?

Loved this blog! Its true - generally speaking, life I think all has its ebb & flow, times you feel epic and times you just feel like crawling back in bed and hibernating... relationships, work, its all up & downs, its finding that happy medium and ever elusive *balance* thats hard to get then maintain.
I always feel like well I better do 'whatever it may be that I need to do' becasue Ive found over and over again that I typically feel better having done something VS doing nothing when I KNOW I am capable.
Way to go on the nachos too!! Just ONE is a MAJOR victory, all or nothing is too hard to keep up, but having ONE and savoring it... thats BIG TIME RAWK-STAR!!! Each time you say no, or just one and stick to it will make it easier - Props!!
I hear ya on heat, I live in Texas too ;-) I actually enjoy the heat more than the cold... just dont enjoy the electric bill haha

I love early morning runs - not to mention it's vey hot & humid out right now - so. Was out pounding the pavement at 5 am this morning.

I soooo wish we had a pool! I LOVE to swim!

Sounds like you're making great choices.

    Great job!

I have been tracking again for a few weeks and am seeing results. I'm now getting up earlier to get a run or ride in; in some cases i can even sneak in a bonus workout in the early evening hours.

You are AWESOME! I finally did a work commute of 23 miles Fri and joined our bike club for 30 miles yesterday, but feel badly for having missed today's ride as I hear one of the club members treated the group to lunch at her home. Too much to do here at home today, however.

Summer heat sucks my will to live, man. I hate it. I actually have more energy in the winter. I know, I'm an odd duck. The time I slack the most exercising, is always in the summer!

Glad to hear from you again, missed you!

Love your momentum! It's rather contagious. emoticon Now I just hope I catch it. LOL I'm trying to come back from injuries and it is so easy to make those horrible food choices and not put in the extra effort to do the workouts I can just because they are not what I like or am used to. Thanks for posting such an inspiring blog.
