What's going on?

Sunday, June 23, 2013

I've been a bit MIA lately: summer is here, and I have lots of excellent distractions. I've been playing Legend of Zelda: Link to the Past. I only have a few dungeons to go! My new game I got for my birthday, Spirit Tracks, kept freezing, so we exchanged it, and it took Game Stop awhile to get it in because they're idiots who don't know how to fill orders. Well, that's why they work at Game Stop, and not as an ER doctor, or a rocket scientist or something. No offense to people who work there that aren't actually idiots.

I've been busy at the gym. I'm now on Stage 4 of NROL4W. I can now bust out 3 sets of 8 real push-ups. Considering I started push-ups at about 45 degrees, I'm very happy with my progress.

I reinstated my BodyMedia Fit account today. I don't want to wear the stupid thing long-term (it's big, ugly, and attention grabbing), but I want to get a handle on my actual Total Calorie Expenditure, so I can figure out how much I should eat in order to both gain muscle and burn fat. Hoping that's possible... It currently says my TDEE is about 2700 calories, so my goal is 2200/day consumed (putting me at a 1lb loss of fat/week). I don't want to cut the calories too much, because I want to keep gaining muscle - and the best you can hope for is to maintain muscle if you eat at too much of a deficit. I know that I'm gaining muscle, because I'm getting stronger. Every time I work out, I'm improving on something. I'm increasing weights, doing something better, etc...

Considering my calorie intake has been around 2000/day on average, and I am the same size as I have been almost since I've started weight training, I am again reminded that I will probably never achieve my goal, and I wonder about the futility of doing this. There was a reason I took it off and gave up on counting calories in the first place. But here I am again, trying to get a handle on things. I'm sick of this sh*t though.

My running is going OK. I'm not really putting everything into my running - I'm putting everything into my weight lifting. It's hard to effectively train to run, in which the goal is to increase efficiency, while also effectively strength train, in which the goal is to decrease efficiency. I want to make my body as inefficient as I can to increase my metabolism, thereby burning more fat.

Airin has been busy doing yard work, and I have been helping him a bit. We have planted some new hydrangeas, a flowering dogwood shrub thing, some other stuff... he has cut down a lot of little trees that were competing for sun. We pulled SO MANY WEEDS. Our poison ivy plant growing on our dead tree is doing lovely. I want to take some money I got for my birthday and chop down the dead trees in our yard. We have had two dead ash trees that died from the emerald ash borer before we moved here, but now we also have a dead maple tree that is on our property line that we share with a neighbor. We'll have lots of kindling, so hopefully we'll be able to get our chimney swept this fall so we can have some fires this winter. We also have our fire pit, and we have a chiminea on our patio (on a fire mat, away from the house!).

And I guess that's about it.

I think it's cool you are reinstating your account........but, I am curious as to why you decided to do so besides trying to get a bead on things. I found out i was actually able to link my fuel band to my lose it! account and keep track and get motivation on the go!!!!!! I am so excited......I've decided to try to log into spark people every night when I can remember. But i am still trying to stay active even though it's been really hot without an airconditioner. It finally rained this evening and it did cool down a bit.......question is............ for how long?????? Have a wonderful day my friend

I am getting really tired of yard work. I worked on some unruly (I know, my fault for not caring for them properly in the past) blackberry brambles for over 6hours and they are still in need of work. BOO HISS!

Stay focused and positive!

Weight loss is so crazy, isn't it? Even though I strongly believe that calorie composition is the main driver, there are still a number of other factors including cortisol, leptin, estrogen, progesterone, testosterone, sleep levels, etc, etc. I do think there is a right answer for all of us, but whatever that is, who knows? Just gotta keep trying.

Its ok to focus on one thing at a time & if weight training has your heart keep at it! you seem to be getting better with leaps and bounds and so what if you haven't lost anything, maintaining weight & getting stronger is something good too.

Keep up the great work!

    Sounds like a good plan.

Depends on what you want your goal to be for running. If you want to increase endurance, go for distance....but running is catabolic and will tear down muscle after some amount of time (1 hour+).

If you want to torch fat & maintain muscle, go for short duration, hi intensity intervals...sprints. Ever seen a muscular marathoner? But take a look at sprinters....lean, mean, and muscular!

It's tougher to do, but you can build towards it

Never thought of it that way!
I am pretty sick of thinking about the effin numbers all the time, too.
My reduced ST is going well- trying to do the heaviest I can until the point of feeling any bladder prolapse pressure (think a soft half-filled water balloon starting to fall out) and focusing on upper body or seated stuff until I see my doc sometime this summer.
My wt dropped 5-6-7 lbs when I started IF but then no more for June.
I was hoping for 5 lbs a month but I may have eased up a bit on the rules- you know how I am.
I should say WE are.
