I did it! I really did it!!! Not the fastest walker but not the slowest either. The route took us past Gloucester Docks first and then double back through the docks and round the other side before threading through the centre of Gloucester, back through the Cathedral grounds and then finally to the park. Most of it was on the roads so my feet are killing me and I ache quite a lot, but that will go.
We had to be there an hour early and then we had a 15 minute warm up routine - a bit of zumba and a bit of all sorts. We were then split into runners, joggers and walkers and started pretty much on time. I haven't yet done 3 miles in less than an hour, so I was hoping to do the 5K in just over the hour. By the time I got past the start it was about 5 minutes after the start of the runners so taking that off the finishing time, I achieved it!
Lining up to start
Plenty of pushchairs and wheelchairs amongst the walkers.
The home straight
Safe home. It was quite cold and grey but much better than being too hot or raining cats and dogs as we were threatened with. It was a good experience for a first time and I will definately do it again next year. Perhaps I'll be jogging by next year though.
