Talk about a day going off the rails...sure, the first half of the day went as planned: sleep in , breakfast at my favorite café, catching the early show of World War Z at the theater (I got the last available ticket to the movie), and hanging with King. At 5pm, I started getting ready to head into town to a Summer Solstice party. By 5:30pm, I was heading to Columbus to visit a friend who had just been put into hospice.
My friend is a bike riding buddy. Our families typically spend a week cycling with each other and 2 other families in the summer. A couple years ago, he was diagnosed with cancer. He had been holding his own. Earlier this year, things started going downhill. Still, the call today that he had gone into hospice took me by surprise. After spending a couple hours with him, I became convinced the move to hospice is a bit premature. He seemed too strong. I've got my fingers crossed.
