Sidewalk Crack Did Not Defeat Me!

Saturday, June 22, 2013

I started the day early by stretching with my KBs. It felt good to loosen that stiffness. I need to do that more often!

Part of the Paleo lifestyle is Paleo fitness. Running as fast as you can in short bursts, climbing, lifting, playing...I dashed across the street on my way to work. I park almost entirely at the other end of the block so I had a fast walk after the sprint and it felt so wonderful!

I could not decide which of several options to do during my 2 hour lunch break. Walk past one shopping center to the next and back? Walk to the credit union car sale just to look? Or go to another shopping center and shop and eat? The last option would not offer enough exercise so I ruled that out. What? Me? CHOOSING exercise?! What is up with that?! emoticon I decided I would get a fresh salad and then walk to the credit union. But I tripped over a crack in the sidewalk and had a four point landing. Palms and knees. I had less trouble than usual getting back up. I walked to Subway and got the salad. Thoroughly enjoyed it except for the price. I am going to start bringing my own and hope the ice trays will keep the salad fresh for about 5 hours. Fit and Fresh containers have ice blocks you can put in the containers.

I ended up with over 10K steps and over 3 miles, though not all at once.

I feel so much better than I did! I now know what a "quiet gut" is. My starting-to-be-consistent Kettlebell work is contributing to a feeling of more strength and looser clothes.

The sales managers are angling for the GM to give me hours on Sunday. Four hours would help the pocket book, but it would mean I would be working 7 days a week. If it's offered, I'll take it. Time will tell. The good side to that is another day when I am "forced" to walk! emoticon

Sounds like you are doing awesome -- glad the sidewalk didn't seem to put a damper in your plans to exercise!

California law requires hourly employees must take a lunch break before the end of 5 hours of work. The dealership wants me there while they have the sales staff in a meeting starting at 8:30 (so I can greet customers and answer the phones). Thus, my lunch starts at 12:30 and, because the GM wants me there until 6:30, I start the afternoon at 2:30. Having a two hour lunch break is quite luxurious! This way, he also maximizes my time at the dealership without having to pay overtime.

Sorry about the fall :( Good recovery and exercise!! It certainly is better to take your own lunch. How unusual to have a two hour lunch break. Shorter hours in a day would be preferable.. Seven days a week would make it a challenge for you to stick with your program and might fatigue you. You have to think of your health too.
    Please take care of you!

I'm glad that exercise is becoming "fun" for you, and sorry about your fall. Skinned knees and hands are the pits. And how awesome that even in the midst of the shock of falling, you noticed you could get up more easily than before. That is so great.
