I AM a runner.

Saturday, June 22, 2013

Last weekend I did the color run and averaged 12.4 min/mi. I did run/walk intervals
This week I was climbing the stairs at work and hurt. Usually it is my joints which is expected but this time it was my calf. I rested it a bit (still going all over the office but elevator not stairs) but it was still kind of achy last night. D thinks I pulled something but I went to the Mayor's Marathon ( 4 miler event ) anyway.
I ran almost the whole first mile... Then I couldn't ignore it anymore. I am not a quitter though so I walked off to the side on the grass and dirt area rather than that the concrete and gravel. I jogged a few bits here and there and finished off running. I walked all of the up hils and passed some of the people that were jogging or walking that had originally passed me. I lagged a little on the last mile. I had caught up to a girl I had been trailing since shortly after I started walking and she had jog/walk intervaled it too. When we hit the gravel area her knee had gone out. I had to slow down some to motivate her as we went. The top of the hill was the last .1 mile and we both ran it as best we could. I got ahead of her there but cheered her to the finish line. We both made it at 1 hour for the 4 miler. 15 minute miles is pretty good for being injured and having arthritis and going up so many hills... The fit bit registered all the hills as 23 flights of stairs... That is a lot of freaking hills!
I may have not beaten my other (mostly flat course) time but I kept going, I helped out another runner and we both made it without giving up! I AM a runner!

    Thanks Guys!
It was an awesome time. I love meeting new friends at events!
Can't wait for next years runs :D
Hopefully the Color Run again and the 5 Miler again. I want to be able to run most of the 5 miler before I try walking the half marathon.
Though I am considering just walking the half marathon next year anyway since I did run the whole first mile being injured beforehand and made it through the 4 miler and did do the 5.6 last year.... We'll see what I decide on.
There's also a Woman's Run up here that I have to look into for next year. After I started getting the Skinny Raven newsletter I discovered that there are a lot of runs up here I didn't know about. :)
