Party For Hunger

Friday, June 21, 2013

Today was the party ate work, the Summer Sizzle. It went fantastic! We raised a goodly amount of money for a local food bank and we filled (and over filled!) 6 barrels with nonperishable food for the same food bank. And even though, as a planning committee member, I couldn't win any of the raffle stuff...I still bought stuff in to donate. I read that NV is #8 on the top ten list of places with the most food insecure kids. And my home state of Oregon is #4 (you can read it here: www.huffingtonpost.com/2
). It's so sad to think of kids, families, or anyone going hungry in this day and age. If we took even a small part of the money we, as a nation, spend on funding to feed people in other countries, maybe we could put a dent in the problem of hunger in America. Maybe we spent on the military spending, NOT spend less on those that serve and even die to defend our Freedom and their families, but less on things like wars, we could even eradicate hunger here. Shouldn't we start fixing this problem at home before we try to fix it else where? BTW...I'm So proud of everyone I work with for all they did today! Rant over.

Anyway...we had an amazing turnout, everyone was thrilled with how well it all came together! I tried to be smart in what I ate and did some walking. I don't think I sat down at all from 8 AM until about noon. We had everything done and cleaned up 2:30. All the balloons we had as decorations, we took outside and let go. It was way cool to see them floating and dancing on the breeze. And we even got to go home 2 hrs early! All in all it was great Friday!

But no workout at lunch. Just all the walking I did. Now to spend a nice Friday afternoon/evening with my hubby! Hope you all have a great weekend!
