So we are now about a month out and I can feel myself getting stronger for sure. I try to run 6 days a week, but I am not following a training plan, or doing pacing runs or all that. In an ideal world I would LOVE to come in under an hour, but as the course is ALL hills, I am not so sure I can do it!
I have found something wonderful though, friends! One of my friends from Highschool (back 10+ years ago) is training for a half, I connected with her over facebook (ah the joys of the internet) and now we are going to train together (on her easy days). I totally freaked myself out looking at her last race pace (8.44 per mile!) I am so much slower, so it will be really good for me!
I also have started running with two mommy friends I met in my area. Their kids are older by 6 months plus but it is SO fun. I usually do my "short" days with them, but their pace is actually faster than mine too so it keeps me motivated! It is SO much more fun running with people. I used to HATE it too! But now I love the challenge and the social aspect and lets face it, running for an hour or more alone especially with no music (it freaks me out to not hear the cars while I am pushing a jogging stroller) gets old.
The race is coming right up, July 20th! I have gone from 11+ minute miles to about 10:20, though I can run a 9:40ish when I am on a flat terrain. My latest running discovers have been GI issues (fiber+running=no fun), throwing up after a run (low blood sugar+dehydration+eating too fast after a run=bad idea) and blisters (who knew it was a bad idea to run in cotton socks? Now I do!) But that said, I am LOVING it, and getting closer to that pre--pregnancy body I am looking for.
I am already fitter and can run further than I was on the day I found out I pregnant (ran 5 miles and felt like a champ, now I am up to 8), just a few more pounds to go!
Here is a pic of all of us from Father's day!
