Happy solstice today! It's either the longest or shortest day of the year, depending on where you are. We're getting the most sunshine we'll get all year. It's going to feel like summer with the heat and humidity and we got our first summer storm last might with strong gusty winds (up to 70 mph) and I even got up to sirens at 3 this morning!
The winds reminded me of how we could weather a storm. We could be like the blade of grass or the strong oak tree. A blade of grass is flexible and when cut down, will grow right back and be just as strong, the wind may even help it pass it's seeds along farther than it would with the calm. A big oak tree may be able to grow higher to the sky, but one good wind will damage it's resolve and it will fall right over, never to grow upright again, possibly damaging it's neighbors in the process.
Are you like the blade of grass, flexible in your approach and able to find a way to grow back when cut down or are you like the big oak tree, growing strong and rigid in your beliefs, but when thrown off by something unexpected, not able to get back up?
Which way do you think you'll be better able to create your goals? Life happens and if you stay strong in the way you're doing things in the calm, you may not make it out of the storm. When you're flexible in your approach and able to change things when stuff happens, you will make it out of the storm more successfully than if you stay firm in the beliefs you had when it was calm. Different scenarios demand different approaches and if you won't bend to the new approach, you will never make it to your goals.
Today's Holidays: Go Skateboarding Day, Ugliest Dog Day, National Flip-Flop Day, Baby Boomers Recognition Day, ASK Day (A day to ask about guns in the homes of your children's friends) and National Peaches and Cream Day (I could get into that one!).
