I just lost a very long blog half-way through typing it so I will not even bother to do it again because I know it won't be the same.

I was feeling too lazy to go for a run yesterday, the weather was also very discouraging (Nairobi is really cold right now!) After a whole day of lazying around on the couch, I realized I was not doing myself any good. So I got up, put on my workout clothes and shoes and started walking at home (those who are familiar with Leslie Sansone's workouts will understand this.) Then I decided to add some jump rope into the mix but I was still feeling like I had some more energy to burn. The more I worked out, the more energetic I felt. I then decided to make use of my stairs at home and just kept going up and down, and up and down. Even after my workout, I still felt a pull towards those stairs. So anytime I need to use the bathroom, if I was upstairs, I'd go to use the downstairs bathroom and if I was downstairs, I'd go to use the bathroom upstairs.

Later on as I was watching TV, I came up with a new challenge. During each commercial break, I'd go up and down the stairs at least three times.

By the end of the day, I had 36,232 steps and 51 floors recorded on my fitbit (WooHoo). Even though I had skipped my scheduled morning workout, I was still able to get a good workout just by improvising.

    I do the same thing, only no stairs, but I go all over the house when commercials come on or do some housework thrown in while I am at it. I love my fitbit! It makes me get up and go and not be so much of a couch potato! Good for you! Keep it up! You are doing great!! Hope you are still going strong!! Keep going --never give up!! emoticon

    36K steps in a day? I thought I was doing well getting up to 15K in a day lol! Good for you for pushing through the lazy. After you get started with exercise its like you can't stop sometimes~ I love my FitBit as well, I have a Zip so its a glorified pedometer really but I love it! emoticon emoticon emoticon

    What a great idea! When I don't make it to the gym I walk for at least two hours or clean for two hours. I think it averages out. I have to say, I sure wish I could run.

    I'm with you on the discouragement of losing a blog.

But even this second attempt convinced me simultaneously:

* It's a smaller world than I commonly think!
* It's a bigger world than I commonly think!

  Congratulations on getting creative with the workout on that cold day! I try to make two trips for every one trip I need tomake when going upstairs or down. It is amazing how quickly the steps and floors add up but I have never come close to what you accomplished!

And yes I agree, Nairobi is too cold right now. Will have to bundle up for my long run tomorrow and warm up very slowly to prevent the joints from creaking
