Considering a big decision

Thursday, June 20, 2013

I have so much trouble doing housework and getting my laundry done. I'm look into what a cleaning service would cost me every other week. I'd probably need to give up my produce delivery and a few other things, but it might be worth it. I'm getting estimates now. This will all be moot if the prices turn out to be from another planet!

I am also in Calif and I found someone on Craig's List for a fraction of the price than these chain cleaning companies. They will come to your house and see what you want done before giving you a price. Once they (two people) thoroughly clean I find I can do little things once a week and only use them once every 6 weeks.

If it does turn out to be too expensive, think about putting up a sign in your building to hire someone informally. It's SO hard for teenagers to get the usual teenager jobs these days that you might very well get a kid who will do it for $10 an hour and be eternally grateful.

If you can swing the finances this might be a good option. Sounds like you need to look at the budget and compare that to the benefits of the cleaning service and your health.

If budget allows, by all means do it. Instead of a service, I've always used an independent, usually found by word of mouth. Now that we're retired, we do most everything ourselves~my husband has no choice about helping me~house rules are either we split the work or hire someone, and he doesn't want to pay, so he does his share LOL. I do hire out the carpets shampooed and windows washed, tile deep cleaned with equipment once a year~ but also still have someone come in and clean if we are gone for at least a month. I make arrangements with a neighbor re house key etc and leave payment with the neighbor. Then, even though I've left the house clean, it's all freshly dusted, vacuumed etc just before we get home. Who wants to do all the travel laundry plus clean? We are not wealthy by any means or stretch of the imagination, but when we splurge we just trade out something else~ whatever's most important at the time. When I worked outside the home, I had the "swat team" over on a semi-regular basis and did it myself in between. Many years ago when I dressed for business, I had someone do the ironing too. I don't regret a dime that was spent. Spare time and peace of mind is priceless!

Well, never had a cleaning service, and never honestly had the yen for one BUT if it would make life easier for you, go for it! It really boils down to what's most important to you.

Whenever I consider help, I can't convince myself that I need to pay someone to do my work for me. Cleaning house is exercise, after all,and it's hard work.

I used to use a service, too. It was great, but my girl disappeared one day and never came back. :-(

If the cost is too high, consider having the cleaning service every 3 weeks or even just once a month.

I have considered the same and if I go back to working, I may do so. But with my staying home a bit more right now, it just doesn't make sense to pay someone to do what I can do, but hate. Yes, I despise cleaning. But oh, do I like cooking and eating, hence why my kitchen tends to be a bit of a mess.

When my son was very young - I got a service to come in every other week. Well worth it.... your time has a value as well.

We pay about 150 a week. I hate it, but She(WMBO) like the house spic and span top to bottom at least once a week and I cannot do the entire house in a single day. So she has a team come in to do it.

You might even ask around your complex and see if someone would like to share the service.

I had weekly cleaning service years ago. The company gave me a list of exactly what they do weekly, bi-weekly, monthly and bi-annually. The surprise was I was trying to do more than necessary. I stopped the weekly service after seeing how easy it was to keep up their pattern. I still hire them to deep clean the entire house every spring and fall. Everything is spotless including windows, walls, carpet, behind appliances, polish's a long list but well worth the expense. .

I've thought of that myself on and off. If you get flyers, like coupon magazines you can find some good deals.

Being surrounded by a clean nice environment would definitely be a real mood boost and relieve a lot of stress.

Good for you!
