27 Dresses, and What the Bride Said

Thursday, June 20, 2013

A friend is getting married this Saturday, and I'm looking forward to the wedding. It's going to be fun. In fact, the ability to party was one of her criterion for the guest list. I'm happy to be included!

I knew I'd have to shop for a dress; nothing in my closet really fits anymore. The bride is a woman who knows exactly what she wants, so last week, when I asked her what I'm supposed to wear to this shindig, she said, with no hesitation, "Look hot!"

With those marching orders and not much to spend, I set out for J.C. Penney. I love their clothes. For the first time, a very long time...I knew I wasn't an XXL, or XL. I wasn't a Plus. Or a 16, or a kinda-sorta 14 that fit here but not there, or almost a size 12 if only it had another inch of fabric! And while I didn't want anything too snug, for a change I wasn't looking for anything blousy or empire-waisted to skim over bulges.

The sales woman helped me load up on size 12s--okay, not 27 dresses, but at least 10 of them. And lo and behold, THEY ALL FIT! I'm busty and curvy, and some looked better than others; some looked, well, stunning. It was tough, but I finally made my choice. That was the happiest shopping experience I've had in eons!

And, for the first time in a long time, I look forward to being in wedding photos...voila!

Thanks again! It was great fun, and I felt fabulous. The low-light conditions made it almost impossible to get good pictures, unfortunately, but I think I have one that I can post.

emoticon I love those kinds of experience and feeling, dressing rooms can be quite frustrating.

Congratulations! That's fantastic. I have known what it is like to suffer in a changing room. It is a wonderful thing to be able to look in those full length mirrors and think "Damn! I look great!" Have a wonderful time at the wedding.

I'm excited to see your photo! Thanks for commenting on my blog. I hope I get into cooking more. I am currently on summer vacation (I'm a teacher) so I need to use the summer to experiment with recipes while I have the time. I see from your "about me" that you have a physically demanding job. Can I ask what you do?

Thanks! I feel like this blog is a total brag-fest, but I guess that is one of the indulgences of SP. Who else besides other SP members truly know just how hard a person has had to work to get where they are, whether that's a size 6 or a 12 or 20?
