Physical Therapy evaluation or Why I'm cleared for take off!

Thursday, June 20, 2013

Completed my fourth week of PT for my knee yesterday. I get evaluated again on Monday. However my therapist said I could do some jogging interspersed with my walking for the next few days and probably restart the C25K program next week! emoticon

I feel I've got some momentum going now with that good news. I started tracking my food again, for the sole purpose of making me think before I eat. For example.....I really wanted a decaf latte this afternoon. It's rainy and it fills me up. But I was also hungry and had a TJ's This Fig Walks Into A Bar bar. Doing both would leave me enough room to have a piece of lettuce and a carrot for dinner. So I compromised and had a few cups of Double Matcha Green Tea and the Fig Bar. Problem solved.

Though I really, really want to have the latte still. Am giving myself double points for not partaking of the June Birthday celebration at work, which was celebrated with Ruby Jewel ice cream sandwiches. If you haven't had one of these delectable treats, then you should. They are wonderful every once in a while.

Had a great walk yesterday after PT, almost two miles. Tested out the old knee on a few block long jogs, no pain and I felt terrific. I've also discovered walking helps alleviate the swelling I get in my feet and ankles at the end of the day. They actually go back down to normal size when I exercise. Another win for me.

I do have to admit I felt pretty good last night. A little hungry, but good all the same. I had a tough PT appointment, I went for a walk afterwards and ate a light dinner of fish and veggies. All in all a pretty good start.

Today has been awesome as well. Keeping track of what I'm stuffing into my cakehole forces me to think about my choices. And if I go over my numbers every once in a while, that is okay. As long as I don't make it a habit and get right back to doing the right thing the next meal or next day.

That is fantastic news! Always like when the PT says you are almost ready to go! That Trader Joe's again!! You Americans are so lucky to have that store, I hear people crowing all the time about the neat things they find there! This fig walks into a bar bar?? Got to be interesting. Never heard of it -the fig part grabbed my attention. Costco demo one time was of a fig stuffed with cream cheese, think my taste buds died and went to heaven. Took a lot of discipline not to buy the family size package offered :P Ruby Jewel Ice Cream sandwiches, another product I am not familiar with -maybe we Canadians are deprived here not getting all American imports.. We are getting a Target though. I think I would rather lobby for a Trader Joes..
Way to go reigning in the temptations! For me, tracking is where it begins and ends. I have been on maintenance for two years and I still track as I walk a fine line between my food and fitness. I go all out in both departments, so I have to watch for trends and of course had some injuries to recover from too. So looking to get back into it full bore too!
Spark on!

Glad your PT is going well. I start PT in 2 weeks for an arthritic knee.
