Internet down again

Thursday, June 20, 2013

I am underwhelmed with Sky as the internet is up and down like anything. I have not been able to log on for 2 days so here I am catching up.

Tuesday I got home from work, walked the dogs and fell asleep on the couch. I was shattered and I ached all over. I thought that I was coming in for someting.
Wednesday I didn't feel right all day, sort of wobbly and shakey. We didn't ride Wednesday either. We did do a bit of gardening and put the loft boards down and some of our stuff to store up in the loft.
Today was an odd day. I had a home lunch break, something that is almost unheard of. I finally got home and had finished walking the dogs somewhere around 8pm and really didn't feel like riding at all. The thought of the Cycletta event in 10 days spurred me in to action and I decided to cycle the short 8 miles to the hospital to meet Kenn coming out of dialysis and get a ride in the car home again.

This worked really really well. I have a new cassette on my bike, the largest of the 9 cogs has 25 teeth instead of 22 teeth on my usual cassette. Those extra 3 teeth make a serious difference going up hill. I am not sure if Bedfordshire is hilly but I am not taking the chance, hence the new cassette.

Although I didn't feel like being in a hurry, I just flew along today. I had a brilliant time. There were a couple of small hills and I nearly fell off at a set of lights as my feet didn't un-clip cleanly from my pedals. I managed not to fall off and look like a complete pillock but it was a bit wobbly for a moment there. I had done less than a mile when that happened and I hoped that it wasn't an omen for the ride. Turns out it wasn't. I had my fastest ride for a long while. 8.33 miles in 33 minutes and change. I averaged 15.1 mph and was travelling at 1 mile per 3mins & 59 seconds. Which sounds fairly good until I thought that Roger Bannister ran a mile at the same speed, without the aid of a lightweight aluminium & carbon fibre bicycle.

I feel great now. Off to flump on the sofa and then to bed. If its not pouring, I have a 13 miler in mind tomorrow.

Good for you on getting out there today even though you didn't originally feel like it. Sounds like it turned out to be an enjoyable time! (And too bad about the spotty internet - nothing makes me more cranky!)
