As I eluded to in an earlier blog, steps are being taken to rectify my out-of-control schedule.
Step One was the decision and plan.
Step Two was discussing this with my staff (who are happily on-board and expressed their concern about how long I could keep going with the horrific hours) and changing the message on my cell phone (advising patients to call the office during regular hours). This has decreased stress as I am not put in the position of hanging up on a patient (due to HIPPA, I can't talk to a patient when I am in another patient's home since it would be impossible to keep their information confidential).
Step Three is the next step in putting the plan into action - lightening my load. This was done today. 3 patients were moved from my monthly schedule to an every 4th month visit. That will reduce my monthly load by about 1 1/2 to 2 hours a month. This may not seem like much, but it is a step in the right direction. The other months, these patients will be seen by the NP in my practice.
