My parents called yesterday and said they got an offer on their house. The offer was for full asking price, so of course they accepted it right away. This is great news for them. They're going to be moving into a really nice "luxury" apartment with a sunroom, pool, gym, clubhouse, etc. I'm excited for them -- and for us, too! It will be fun to visit them in this new place. I will really enjoy swimming in the pool with Daughter -- we are both water bugs! They will also be about 20-30 minutes closer than they are now, so that will make the drive down there easier and when Dad comes up to visit us, it won't take him quite as long either. Every little bit helps.
Another reason this is a good thing, is because they are giving us some furniture. Their current home has three bedrooms and one of them is Daughter's bedroom. Their new place will only have two bedrooms, so they are giving us the furniture from Daughter's bedroom. It's all beautiful, antique furniture passed down through my Dad's family. I am SO excited to get it!! I am finally, after nearly 13 years of marriage, getting rid of the last of my junky, "just-starting-out" pieces of furniture. We've acquired some nice pieces over the years, but we still have a few lingering pieces of...well...crap. There is still use left in them, but particle board, old, etc. I'm soooooo beyond BEYOND excited to get these last few pieces out of here and replace them with some really lovely furniture. As soon as I found out they sold their house, I posted an ad online for the bed that's currently in our guest room. I got rid of the mattress, box springs, frame, bed skirt, foam mattress pad, mattress cover, and sheet set -- for $75. I thought that was a really good deal. I posted some ads for this last night, and when I checked this morning, I had several responses. I hauled all that out onto the front porch by myself (Rar!!!) and by lunchtime today, everything was picked up and paid for. Yay, money! Then I spent the rest of the day figuring out which pieces we're going to be getting rid of and moving some things around. I still have quite a bit of work to do, but I got the ball rolling and that feels really good.
I usually keep my house really clean and tidy...but all this moving furniture is making me realize my house needs a good deep clean. Things are kind of dusty behind furniture, and on the shelves, etc. I was kind of shocked, but oh well. I'll take care of it. I was glad Daughter was gone to an all-day activity, so I could just focus on what I needed to do. I guess it wasn't the most "fun" way to spend by myself, but at least I got something accomplished. Now to just do it again tomorrow. :)
