Off course but not sinking

I've not been staying in touch here. No tracking, weighing, etc. Just me and my FitBit adding activity minutes automatically.

Made a change to my diet last week and already feel much better. In 2004 I was diagnosed Lactose Intolerant and had to make big changes (I was used to drinking a gallon or more of milk per week). After the adjustment period and finding my HEB started selling Mootopia milk, I've been doing good.

However, the last couple of years I've been getting similar symptoms as I did in 2004. Bloating, gas, tired all the time, triglycerides way too high and vertigo acting up (new symptom). My B-I-L has gluten issues, so when we make meals together I'm always looking for recipes he can eat. He also mentioned since coming off gluten his triglycerides have gone way down. So, I did some research into gluten and found out my symptoms could be a gluten intolerance. Could also be a dairy issue, just too many veggies my system can't handle, etc.

But the only way to determine the cause - without medical tests that will probably come back as nothing - I decided to eliminate gluten. Started it last Thursday and already see a difference! I don't feel bloated and gassy, I have energy and lost 2 pounds, BONUS! emoticon

I'm still being bad and not counting calories but I'm eating way more protein and staying full longer. I've always been a carb addict, bread was my biggest love, so adjusting to that was rough the first 3 days or so. Now I'm buying butter lettuce to replace sliced bread, eating eggs and bacon for breakfast with a little cheese and hot sauce, snacking on BabyBel and peanuts, etc.

I've noticed I'm sitting up straighter and not slouching all the time. Getting out of bed is easier too. OK, I'm not going to start training for a marathon or anything, my knees just wouldn't let me. But who knows?

I will do my best to keep everyone updated on my progress with going gluten free. Oh, and I'm not going to the extreme of freaking out about cross-contamination (yet). Not sure I can live to that extreme.

    It's amazing how making 1 change you can feel so much better. One thing I read about gluten was that people with tolerance issues tend to crave things with it more. That would be me, the carb addict. I was eating flour tortillas, whole grain wheat bread and flats, love pasta, etc.

    Hope you get better. I had some health issues and cut out dairy and meat. I follow a plant based whole foods plan and feel so much better.
